Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Intro
Do you love complex problems, helping people find precisely the right product solution, and making it seem simple? Atlassian has an extraordinary opportunity for you! We are searching for a Senior Product Designer to join our People Tooling design team in Atlassian.
Atlassian is one of the fastest-growing software companies globally, with millions of customers across our products (Jira, Confluence, and Trello, to name a few). We're continuing to invest heavily in a bid to bring out the best in every team. We're growing our design team globally and searching for hardworking designers and design leaders.
About the role and team
Atlassian has an ambition to be a top 5 tech company, which hinges on building a world-class team. This, in turn, relies heavily on how we continuously empower our greatest asset - our people. People are the heart of Atlassian's ambition, and also our biggest investment. The greatest return on that investment lies in fostering exceptional people experiences to attract, hire, and grow our talent. The People Tooling team builds products to enable Atlassian to do exactly that.
We're looking for a senior product designer to help create exceptional experiences that will transform the way Atlassian supports our thousands of global team members. You will play a foundation role in the development an exciting new product that support the onboarding experience of Newlassians ("New Atlassians") and the interactions between Newlassians, team managers, and their people support partners.
Experience and skills needed for this role

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates expert knowledge and experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining successful, scalable, and flexible products within a mid to large-sized organization.
  • Experience designing and building responsive web products, and making the appropriate design decisions to suit multiple contexts.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. You know how to communicate the why behind your work, and you keep your team up to date and share what you're working on, including clear documentation.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills. You work well with other designers, engineers, and product managers to deliver the best results.
  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on visual design. You know how to work with brand style guides and have experience building great UI designs.
  • You have strong Figma chops and leverage advanced features and workflows to design features and design systems with quality and speed. You can also guide other team members on best practices and approaches.
  • Demonstrated systems thinking with the ability to consider the bigger picture of how design and interaction patterns work across products to design the appropriate solution.
  • Experience designing great 0-1 products and features as an in-house designer working across several projects on a product team, balancing the trade-offs between speed, long-term vision, and quality.
  • Experience in integrating AI into your designs and/or a solid understanding of its potential and appropriate usage.

In this role you will get to:

  • Work in one of Atlassian's newest product development spaces on high-profile people experiences that impact everyone in the company
  • Collaborate with other designers across the lifecycle through implementation and iteration, focusing on delivery design.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, technical program managers, and engineers throughout all stages of the production cycle.
  • Quickly and iteratively create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups and detailed UI and visual design specifications.
  • Experiment, test, and optimize to create delightful, frictionless, and tailored end-to-end experiences.

The ideal candidate will bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on professional experience as a Product Designer (including 3+ years working on responsive web products).
  • Strong visual craft-ability to create visually compelling user experiences.
  • Experience working with existing design systems.
  • Experience building interactive prototypes to validate ideas through user research.
  • A track record of delivering outcomes. We'll ask for specific examples where you've autonomously planned and driven product direction by presenting a case study of previous work.
  • The ability to lead and influence. You have proven experience building consensus with cross-functional peers, key partners across a business to drive results.
  • Experience working with Jira and Confluence and using different Agile methods.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
