Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Netflix Games Design team is seeking an experienced Senior Product Designer, Games Controller to shape how our members seamlessly connect their phones and play games on Netflix. This role focuses on delivering world-class interaction design for TV and web experiences, leveraging users’ smartphones as second-screen devices to create intuitive and frictionless second-screen controller connections. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and game developers, to create seamless, intuitive experiences that make it easy for members to pair devices and jump into the games they love.

This is a remote-friendly role (within the US, west coast preferred), with mandatory team meetings ~4 times a year in Los Gatos or Los Angeles for collaboration and team building.

About Netflix Games and the Vision for the Games Controller

As we expand Netflix Games, we’re focused on building a connected and unified experience that bridges TV and web platforms, enhanced by the use of smartphones as second-screen devices. A critical part of this mission is redefining how users interact with games on Netflix, ensuring seamless connectivity between devices, reducing friction, and creating a best-in-class experience for millions of members worldwide as well as game developers.

The Games Controller experience is central to enabling play, and this role will be pivotal in refining connection flows, scaling innovative features, and ensuring players can easily engage with our growing library of games.

What You Will Do

  • Design of Second-Screen Experience: Create, iterate, and refine intuitive interaction flows across TV, desktop web, and native apps that leverage smartphones as controllers, enabling seamless gameplay on TVs and web platforms.

  • Drive End-to-End Design: Design new features that elevate the Netflix Games ecosystem, such as advanced connectivity as well as the productization of features such as haptic feedback, sound effects, etc.

  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with engineers, PMs, and external developers to align technical capabilities with exceptional user experiences, especially in highly technical environments.

  • Work closely with Consumer Insights researchers and Data Science Engineers to validate results with qualitative user research and A/B testing.

  • Solve Complex Problems: Identify and address friction points in the user journey, reducing connection drop-offs and ensuring seamless integrations between devices.

  • Shape the Future of Play: Define how Netflix Games can transform gaming through intuitive design, innovative connectivity, and a deep understanding of players’ needs.

  • Own the end-to-end design process: From blue sky design exploration to UX specs and quality UI designs, while working closely with cross-functional partners to balance polish and speed towards an effective execution.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Experience: 8+ years as a Product Designer (or equivalent experience), with a strong portfolio showcasing consumer-facing design work, especially for connected ecosystems.

  • Technical Collaboration: Experience designing in highly technical environments, collaborating with engineers to align capabilities with intuitive user experiences on TV and web platforms.

  • Interaction Design Expertise: A track record of creating and shipping intuitive systems and flows for complex user experiences.

  • Consumer-Centric Approach: A deep understanding of designing delightful, end-to-end user experiences, with a focus on TV and web platforms.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to drive initiatives independently, balancing technical constraints with user needs.

Even Better

  • Gaming Expertise: Familiarity with game development, player engagement strategies, and the broader gaming ecosystem.

  • Entertainment Experience: Experience designing for both technical and non-technical audiences, particularly in gaming or entertainment contexts.

  • Creative Tools Expertise: A background in designing tools for creative professionals or other B2B technical applications.

Why You’ll Love Our Team

  • Empowered to Innovate: You’ll have the freedom and flexibility to craft your own design workflow while leveraging Netflix’s world-class design system and tooling.

  • Collaborative Culture: Work with a supportive, talented team on problems that matter, with the autonomy to explore new ideas and drive meaningful impact.

  • Top-Tier Benefits: Enjoy top-of-market compensation, flexible time off, and remote work options, balanced with opportunities for in-person collaboration.

  • Growth and Development: We offer meaningful financial support for further education and professional growth, in an inclusive environment where your work is valued.

At Netflix, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine your personal top of market. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
