Who we are

At City Storage Systems, we're building Infrastructure for Better Food. Our goal is to make food more affordable, higher quality and convenient for everyone. We’re helping restaurants expand their in-store and online food delivery businesses while streamline their operations. Currently, that means investing in our two core businesses, CloudKitchens and Otter.

CloudKitchens is focused on the physical world - the world’s largest real estate business that focuses on building hyper-efficient ghost kitchens in the heart of delivery demand zones, giving restaurateurs a low cost, high profit alternate to opening a brick and mortar restaurant.

Otter is focused on the digital world - the fastest growing restaurant SaaS company that helps restaurants run their entire onsite and online business  on a single, all-inclusive, and intuitive platform.

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our systems and platform team, dedicated to building and evolving shared patterns and components across City Storage Systems’ expanding suite of products. As our products continue to grow, a cohesive design system that spans multiple products is critical and defining platform features, such as search and filtering, will enable a seamless user experience.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining design systems across our web and native app products
  • Designing core platform functionality to support various product teams, such as global search, navigation, and user management.
  • Regularly participating in design critiques and product reviews to obtain feedback, iterate on designs and craft a stronger user experience
  • Close collaboration with other product designers, product managers, engineers and other stakeholders to conceptualize and build new features and platform capabilities
  • Setting the standards, guidelines, documentation and governance to uphold the quality for our products

What we’re looking for

  • You have 8+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, or interaction design, preferably with prior experience building or maintaining a design system
  • Experience building platform features that span multiple products
  • A passion for creating scalable and maintainable design systems
  • Strong full-stack design skills; from interaction design to visual design to system thinking, and everything in between
  • Proven track record in building products from the ground up and working effectively with cross-functional partners
  • Solid communication skills and ability to effectively prioritize projects
  • Make sound judgements based on user data, insights and business objectives
  • Experience working with engineering to build component systems and having technical expertise is a plus

Why join us

Growing market: You’ll be focused on technology for restaurants, which is an $80 billion market that’s projected to reach at least $500 billion by 2030 in the US alone

Changing the restaurant industry: You’ll be part of a team that helps restaurants succeed across their in-store and online businesses

Collaborative environment: You will work directly with other designers, product managers, engineers, data analysts and more across a range of products

What else do you need to know

This role is based in our Mountain View, San Francisco or Los Angeles office. We believe that people do their best work when they are together. As a company, we’re constantly innovating, changing how an industry works, inventing new products and processes - and we are doing all these things - we believe we’re better as a team in person. That’s why all of our teams work from one of our office locations 5 days a week. Looking forward to sharing more about a Career of Substance at Otter.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
