About this team and role:

We are looking for an experienced in-house product counsel to work closely with our advertising, marketing, product, engineering, and business development teams throughout the product development life cycle, with a focus on guiding responsible advertising practices. A key member of our stellar Product & Privacy Legal team, you will provide practical and business-oriented legal advice, ensuring alignment with Mozilla’s values of privacy, transparency, and privacy by design. 

What you'll do:

  • Provide practical legal advice across Mozilla’s advertising and monetization initiatives, as well as other topics including user-generated content, subscription services, and emerging technologies, in each case from conception to launch and beyond. 
  • Counsel ads, product, engineering, marketing, and business development teams on compliance with advertising, privacy, and consumer protection laws in the U.S., EU/UK, and globally.
  • Monitor evolving regulatory and industry frameworks in digital advertising, including state, federal, and international privacy and data protection laws (e.g. CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive), the Digital Services Act, and IAB and other industry standards, and deliver timely and practical advice to inform Mozilla’s product and advertising strategies.
  • Partner with business teams to ensure Mozilla’s product development and advertising strategy promotes transparency, trust, and privacy by design. 
  • Draft, revise, and maintain consumer and developer terms of use and privacy policies.
  • Collaborate with privacy, product, and commercial counsel, as well as Trust & Safety, Policy, and other internal stakeholders, to provide consistent guidance and develop scalable risk management frameworks.
  • Build deep relationships across Mozilla, identify risks, and work cross-collaboratively to propose and implement creative and practical solutions.

Your Professional Profile 

  • J.D. degree and membership in a state bar with good standing 
  • 5+ years experience, with at least two years in-house 
  • Experience counseling clients in advertising and marketing law, adtech, data privacy, and consumer protection 
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business advice
  • Strong interest in technology, with the ability to break down technical concepts and communicate them effectively to legal, policy, marketing, and cross-functional partners.

Preferred Profile

  • Familiarity with self-regulatory frameworks for advertising (e.g., FTC guidelines, IAB, DAA, NAI).
  • Experience working with ad tech partners and vendors on consent management frameworks, including implementing CMPs, managing user preference signals (TCF, GPP, GCP), and ensuring alignment with global privacy and consumer protection requirements. , 
  • Experience counseling on EU and cross-border regulatory frameworks impacting digital advertising.
  • Background in ad measurement, analytics, or attribution.
