Help define the future of hardware development! At AllSpice, we’re building the automation engine that powers the next generation of circuit design, enabling breakthroughs in smart vehicles, robotics, rockets, IoT, medical devices, and more.

We’re creating the agile development environment for hardware engineers with a Git-friendly translation layer and automated CI/CD framework for native circuit designs. Think GitHub/GitLab + Copilot, but for electronics.

Our mission is to bring the same modern workflows that revolutionized software: version control, automation, and collaboration to the hardware world.

Learn more about our journey in TechCrunch and our recent Series A announcement.

Just as software teams rely on automated validation, continuous integration, and intelligent output generation, AllSpice Actions brings these same superpowers to electrical engineering teams.

This role starts as a hands-on individual contributor position, with the opportunity to grow into leadership as the Actions team scales.

If you’re passionate about building automation systems and want to shape the foundation of modern hardware DevOps, we’d love to meet you!

What will you do?

This is a high-impact role that requires significant autonomy and requires a self-driven, collaborative person. You will be focused on owning major components of our automation engine and integrations. You will:

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design and implement innovative solutions that empower hardware engineers.
  • Build automation workflows that streamline and optimize circuit design processes, leveraging AllSpice’s platform and backend systems.
  • Develop integrations with third-party APIs such as PLM and manufacturing tools.
  • Contribute across the stack, from backend services to front-end interfaces, within the AllSpice Actions product.
  • Own and improve the team’s software delivery pipeline, driving continuous improvements in performance, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Maintain and elevate code quality, fostering strong engineering practices through reviews, mentorship, and thoughtful design.

Example Projects

  • Implement a third party integration that allows Hardware Engineers to sync data from their designs in Allspice to their PLM solution.
  • Build an automation that pulls carbon emission data for parts in a design and creates a report on carbon emissions for a project.
  • Mock up and implement a visual, intuitive experience for users to build project automations.

Our stack

  • Python for actions scripts/plugins
  • Gitea application soft fork
    • Go [server-side]
    • Vue/TypeScript Front-end
  • GitHub actions for CI/CD
  • Docker Swarm & Terraform for deployment
  • AWS
  • Postgres DB
  • Rust - backend utility functions

Expectations

Our ideal candidate should have the following:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technology-related field
  • Project management skills with ability to lead and collaborate with varied stakeholders, from engineers to customers, to move projects forward
  • Experience managing software projects using tools such as JIRA, Notion, or a similar issue-tracking system
  • Can think in terms of the big picture but deliver on the details
  • Ability to manage ambiguity gracefully, autonomy, and confidence in being self-directed
  • (Optional) Availability to work out of our flex offices in San Francisco or Boston on a hybrid basis (2-3 times/week)

Relevant Skills

You don’t necessarily have to be proficient in all of these, but the more you know, the better:

  • TypeScript, Python, Go programming languages
  • Github actions development and CI/CD
  • Common Web Architectures + interfaces
  • Project management and communication

Benefits

  • Supportive and smart colleagues, flexible work, opportunity to make a big impact, competitive salary & equity, health, dental, vision, generous PTO, home office stipend.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
