About Montauk Capital

Montauk Capital is an investment management platform that spans venture investing and venture studio efforts that builds and invests in capital in category leading companies. We focus on backing tech companies in the ‘Electron Economy,’ the massive shift toward software-enabled industrial and energy systems. This generational transition is reshaping how we power intelligence, move people and goods, and build resilient industries. From AI, data centers and Web3 to industrial robotics and re-shoring supply chains, the future of growth is built on electrification and the intelligent use of energy.

About Stealth Grid Co

Stealth Grid Co is an emerging venture currently in development through Montauk Capital studio, targeting one of the most pressing bottlenecks in energy: grid interconnection delays. As utilities modernize the grid and address interconnection queue bottlenecks, maintaining system stability has become increasingly complex. Grid planners and operators face a convergence of stressors from the adoption of inverter-based, variable renewable generation and the emergence of large, fast-acting point loads, such as hyperscale data centers, that introduce new forms of system planning and operational risk. The growing presence of concentrated, voltage- sensitive loads raises specific challenges to grid network stability, further increasing the cost and timelines to interconnect these large scale dynamic loads to the grid in a way that mitigates these risks, and heightening the need to optimize the engineering, modeling and studies of these interconnections.

Stealth Grid Co proprietary platform and turnkey solution enable faster, lower-cost grid connections for large dynamic loads, including data centers, hyperscalers, renewable generation, and large industrial loads.

About the Senior Power Systems Engineering Role

We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our growing team and deliver and own the core power system modeling and analysis engine through validation and guidance of all critical power systems math. You will play a critical role in building the core functionality of our platform and recommendation engine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own core power systems math and models: AC power flow, transient/dynamic analysis, Jacobians, eigenvectors, differential equations

  • Design and implement a custom power flow engine and related calculations (speed and/or nuanced accuracy as competitive moat)

  • Validate modeling approaches, catch mistakes, and guide implementation details in real time

  • Focus on low-inertia, renewable-heavy grids: voltage/frequency stability, control, protection, transient behavior

  • Design and validate the dynamic behavior of large loads and IBR.

  • Bridge legacy methods and new approaches: respect physics/math, innovate on implementation for performance and scalability

  • Collaborate with advisors/consultants

  • Provide full-time velocity and technical leadership

  • Partner with the engineering team to integrate models into the product, support the MVP and beyond

Key Expertise:

  • 5+ years of Power Systems Engineering experience

  • PhD in Power Systems Engineering from a top program

  • Experience with low inertia power systems (wind, solar, batteries vs traditional spinning turbines)

  • Research background in renewable energy integration, distribution/transmission grid

  • Deep understanding of voltage/frequency stability, transient analysis, harmonics & control systems

  • Familiarity with the interconnection process, standards, and grid codes.

  • Fluency in power systems math (Jacobian matrices, eigenvectors, differential equations)

  • AC power flows and transient analysis knowledge

  • Must “eat, sleep and breathe” mathematical foundations

  • Expert knowledge with at least one of these software: PSS/E, Power Factory, PSLF

  • RTDS expertise is a plus

  • Has a relevant list of publications

What We Offer

  • Aligned Incentives – Competitive compensation and equity so you share directly in the value we create.

  • Flexibility with Connection – A remote schedule with quarterly team offsites.

  • Direct Impact & Visibility – A collaborative culture where your ideas matter and your contributions have immediate, visible impact across the firm.

  • Growth with the Firm – As we scale, so will your role.

  • Mission-Driven Team – We’re solving real world problems as a team and are building a unified, high growth company together.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
