Who We Are

SmartRent (NYSE: SMRT) is revolutionizing how people live and work with the industry’s only end-to-end platform designed for the rental housing industry. By uniting purpose-built software, integrated hardware and full implementation and support in one ecosystem, we help owners and operators simplify operations, cut costs and deliver exceptional resident experiences. Recognized by Deloitte, HousingWire and the PropTech Breakthrough Awards, SmartRent is shaping the future of property technology and redefining what it means to make rental housing smarter.

Job Description

As a Senior Product Manager, Platform, you will own the product strategy and execution for the operational layer that connects SmartRent's technology platform to the systems and teams that sell, implement, support, and service our customers. This is a role operating with a high degree of autonomy across platform operations, customer onboarding and implementation, integrations, and installation and hardware experiences.

You will balance foundational platform work (reducing implementation friction, enabling operational partners, supporting internal tooling) with strategic initiatives that directly impact customer time-to-value and service delivery quality. You will drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, customer support, sales operations, account management, and executive leadership, and you will lead rigorous discovery and business case development for complex build-vs-buy and platform tooling decisions.

*Open to candidates outside of Phoenix, AZ*

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the product vision for how our Product Platform integrates with SmartRent’s business systems to ensure business continuity and a stellar customer experience. Own billing portals, customer success and account management tooling, and commissioning as key product surfaces.
  • Serve as the product owner for outsourced partner relationships. Define tooling requirements, platform access models, and SLA frameworks that enable partners to deliver support, billing, and implementation services at SmartRent's quality bar.
  • Own the customer journey from contract execution through go-live. Eliminate manual, error-prone steps in enterprise-scale configuration and PMS integration setup. Drive toward self-service readiness for large portfolio operators.
  • Own the end-to-end installer workflow from scheduling through device provisioning and validation. Ensure new device capabilities translate into platform features that application product teams can leverage for resident, staff, and maintenance experiences.
  • Own how third-party systems (PMS, ERP, CRM, support platforms) integrate with the SmartRent platform. Define standards for data flows, API contracts, and middleware architecture in partnership with platform engineering.
  • Translate complex, multi-system operational requirements into clear PRDs with defined acceptance criteria, SLAs, and success metrics spanning internal tools, partner systems, and customer-facing surfaces.
  • Navigate and align engineering, customer support, sales operations, account management, finance, and executive leadership without positional authority. Communicate trade-offs clearly and build consensus in a resource-constrained environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of product management experience, with demonstrated ownership of platform, infrastructure, or operational tools products in a B2B SaaS environment.
  • Strong technical fluency with API design, integration architecture, middleware patterns, and system-of-record concepts. Comfortable holding your own in architecture discussions with engineering leadership.
  • Track record of reducing operational complexity through product thinking, turning manual, human-dependent processes into scalable platform capabilities.
  • Experience with customer onboarding or implementation workflows in an enterprise context, particularly for products with hardware and software components.
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, operations, revenue teams, and external partners without direct authority, including vendor and partner enablement.
  • Strong written communication skills, capable of authoring detailed PRDs, business cases, and executive-level recommendations.
  • Familiarity with CRM (Salesforce), ERP (NetSuite), and customer support platforms as they relate to platform integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multifamily real estate, proptech, or IoT industry experience strongly preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
