WHY JOIN ALO?

Mindful movement. It’s at the core of why we do what we do at ALO—it’s our calling. Because mindful movement in the studio leads to better living. It changes who yogis are off the mat, making their lives and their communities better. That’s the real meaning of studio-to-street: taking the consciousness from practice on the mat and putting it into practice in life.

OVERVIEW

We are looking for an analytical and fashion-savvy Merchandise Planner to drive sales and maximize profitability through strategic inventory and financial planning. In this role, you'll partner closely with buying, merchandising, and allocation teams to forecast demand, optimize stock levels, and align product strategies with fashion trends and seasonal cycles.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring the right products are available in the right quantities, at the right time, and in the right locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute seasonal and long-term merchandise financial plans aligned with company goals.
  • Analyze past sales, market trends, and fashion forecasts to project demand and build assortment plans.
  • Collaborate with buyers to translate the brand vision into balanced and data-driven inventory strategies.
  • Manage in-season performance by tracking sales, markdowns, and inventory turnover; make agile adjustments as needed.
  • Create detailed OTB (Open-to-Buy) plans and monitor performance against budget.
  • Partner with allocation teams to ensure accurate product flow across channels (e-commerce, retail, wholesale).
  • Provide reporting and actionable insights to support buying decisions and inventory optimization.
  • Support markdown strategy and promotional cadence to drive margin and sell-through targets.
  • Contribute to end-of-season reviews and post-mortems for future planning improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory management, or retail planning (fashion industry preferred).
  • Strong understanding of retail dynamics including seasonal cycles, trend forecasting, and assortment planning.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with retail planning tools (e.g., Anaplan, JDA, Oracle, SAP, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and thrive in a fast-paced, trend-driven environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce channels.
  • Familiarity with KPIs like GMROI, turn, sell-through, and weeks of supply.
  • Background in women’s or men’s apparel, footwear, or accessories.
  •  Prior managerial experience is preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
