What we are looking for:

Escape Velocity is looking for a Senior Pipeline Technical Artist to own the DCC Tools domain and serve as the primary technical expert for all digital content creation pipelines. You'll establish the interface between Pipeline and our Rigging, Modelling, Animation, and Environment Art teams—consolidating scattered tools into a coherent, well-documented DCC toolset that artists can rely on.

This is an individual contributor role that requires as much coordination and communication as it does technical skill.

The right person needs the credibility to work across teams and the ability to define clear ownership boundaries for tools and workflows.

Requirements

What we will do together:

  • Own the DCC Tools domain as the primary technical expert and point of contact for Rigging, Modeling, Animation, and Environment Art teams.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces between Pipeline and adjacent art teams, defining who owns what and how tools are handed off.
  • Consolidate and document tools into a coherent DCC toolset covering Maya, 3DS Max, Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, and asset export pipelines.
  • Research and prototype new pipeline strategies to improve the efficiency of content production.
  • Acquire a deep understanding of DCC tools and be able to explain how to work with them to users.
  • Act as a coordination and structure role as much as a technical one—ensuring clear interfaces and handoffs with all stakeholders.

What you will bring:

  • Our ideal Senior Pipeline Technical Artist brings deep Maya expertise and strong communication skills. You understand artist workflows and can establish credibility across multiple art disciplines to build consensus on tool ownership and standards.
  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Art or Pipeline Engineering, with games industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level Python and tool development.
  • Strong experience with at least one of 3DS Max or Substance Painter/Designer.
  • Experience with production tracking integration within DCC applications.
  • Strong artist empathy and experience working across multiple art disciplines.
  • Strong Python development skills and understanding of Object-Oriented programming.
  • Experience with graphical DCCs such as Maya, 3DSMax, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Photoshop.
  • Experience with asset export pipelines and content workflows.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of autonomy.
  • Strong ability to learn new areas of development.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well within a team atmosphere.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
