Senior Mobile Developer

The Senior Mobile Developer will be responsible for building and maintaining Certn’s mobile applications for both iOS and Android using Expo / React Native. You’ll be working with our design, product and backend teams to design and implement new features, ensuring high performance and delivering a great user-experience. You’ll also help define mobile architecture, lean into platform-specific behaviours when needed, make sure our apps feel native and help manage deployments to the App Store and Play Store.

By bridging design, product, and backend engineering, the Mobile Developer ensures that mobile users experience the same reliability and innovation found across Certn’s digital ecosystem. The role helps the organization reach users where they are—on their devices—supporting adoption, engagement, and overall customer satisfaction.

Mobile Application Development

• Build and enhance mobile applications for iOS and/or Android using TypeScript, Expo and clean coding practices, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and maintainable products that deliver a stable and feature-rich user experience.

• Implement mobile UI/UX designs in collaboration with design teams so that interfaces reflect Certn’s brand identity, accessibility standards, and usability goals, resulting in intuitive and engaging experiences.

• Refactor and maintain existing codebases to improve structure, efficiency, and long-term sustainability, enabling faster development cycles and consistent application reliability.

Mobile Application CI and Deployments

• Manage deployments using EAS to the App Store and Play Store

• Resolve any issues found during an App Review

• Manage OTA updates using EAS Update.

• Manage any issues with certificates, provisioning profiles and keystores.

Integration and System Connectivity

• Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs and services to provide users with real-time, secure access to platform functionality, ensuring seamless and dependable communication between mobile and server systems.

• Collaborate with backend and DevOps teams to align on API standards and deployment processes, reducing integration issues and improving delivery speed across products.

• Test integrations under various device and network conditions to identify and resolve performance gaps, ensuring consistent responsiveness and reliability across environments.

Quality Assurance and Performance Optimization

• Conduct thorough testing and debugging (manual and automated) throughout the development lifecycle to detect and fix issues early, maintaining a reliable, high-performing mobile experience for users.

• Monitor and optimize app performance metrics such as load time, responsiveness, and resource usage to enhance speed and efficiency, ultimately improving satisfaction and retention.

• Leverage analytics and crash reporting tools to make data-driven improvements that enhance app stability, guiding continuous optimization and user confidence.

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnership

• Work closely with product managers and designers to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring that mobile development supports strategic product objectives and customer outcomes.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos) to maintain alignment, promote transparency, and foster iterative improvements across teams.

• Document and share technical knowledge to build collective understanding and consistency in development practices, enabling faster onboarding and stronger collaboration within engineering.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation, ensuring Certn’s mobile applications remain competitive, efficient, and forward-looking.

• Contribute to architectural and strategic technical decisions to strengthen scalability and performance, building a sustainable foundation for future growth.

• Champion mobile development best practices and mentorship within the team to elevate code quality and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

  
  

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and practical experience

• Additional coursework or certification in mobile development (e.g., Android Developer Certification, Apple Developer Program, or equivalent) is considered an asset.

• Proficiency in TypeScript / React.

• Strong understanding of mobile UI/UX design principles and accessibility standards.

• Experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs and backend systems.

• Knowledge of mobile testing frameworks and debugging tools (e.g., XCTest, Espresso, Firebase Crashlytics).

• Familiarity with Agile development practices and version control systems (Git).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Clear communication and collaboration abilities.

• Demonstrated experience publishing applications to the App Store or Google Play.

• Experience working within cloud-integrated or API-driven environments.

• Exposure to performance tuning, analytics, and app monitoring tools.
