System1 is looking for an experienced machine learning practitioner to join our data science and machine learning team as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist. This is an individual contributor role focused on development of new machine learning and artificial intelligence products that power search, recommendations, and personalization decisioning for one of the biggest real-time acquisition marketing platforms in the world - reaching hundreds of millions of users every month.

The Role You Will Have:
- Hands-on development of highly scalable algorithms to build products delivering text generation, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and embedding capabilities
- Leverage knowledge of software engineering principles to guide development and deployment of production machine learning solutions that can scale to hundreds of thousands of requests per day
- Keep up with the latest in machine learning and natural language understanding, semantic search, and optimal ranking
- Actively contribute to the wider internal and external machine learning communities by sharing and publishing research and findings
- Work with cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, and analysts to devise implementation and experimentation strategies
- Contribute to the development of System1’s roadmap for core machine learning capabilities
What You Will Bring:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience using, fine-tuning, & deploying LLMs for text generation. Additional experience with image generation is a plus
- Experience with RAG, embedding capabilities, vector embeddings, and in-memory data stores
- Experience in 3rd party Machine Learning libraries (e.g. PyTorch, HuggingFace, Dataiku, LangChain)
- Experience building scalable batch and real-time machine learning products
- Experience with model evaluation (e.g. Causal inference, A/B testing, data/model drift, etc.)
- Fluent in Python programming
- Experience using cloud compute (AWS preferred) and Docker
- Experience sharing code through Git and utilizing CI/CD
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake or other cloud based analytics databases
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide spectrum of cross-functional team members

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $155,000-$233,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. System1’s headquarters is located in Marina del Rey, CA with additional offices in Bellevue, WA and Guelph, ON, Canada. Employees near office locations are returning to the office. Location-specific policies and available accommodations will be discussed during the interview process.
