At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

Relativity’s Integrated Performance teams ensure that our products work across all systems and disciplines, from trajectory design to aerodynamics to reliability analysis and beyond. Our groups size the Terran R rocket, design its missions for customer success, reliability, and reusability, and ensure that every system on the rocket and ground is engineered correctly for the demanding environments of launch and entry. Recently, we completed the preliminary design and analysis of Terran R including Relativity’s first-ever work on launch vehicle reusability, spanning advanced trajectory simulations, wind tunnel testing, and structures analysis, among many other projects.

The Mission Reliability team is responsible for ensuring that Relativity’s rockets are designed, built, and operated with the highest level of engineering rigor. As a part of this team, you will work across every function at the company to execute analysis, drive vehicle architecture decisions, and implement robust technical and programmatic solutions for the Terran R launch vehicle that will be critical for overall mission success.

About the Role:

As a Mission Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for working across all engineering disciplines to tackle the most challenging issues that Relativity faces throughout design, build, test, and launch operations.

  • Perform independent assessments of subsystem and system designs to develop understanding of vulnerabilities and associated risk
  • Drive architectural decision making across engineering functions to improve vehicle reliability
  • Identify technical deficiencies across the program and implement solutions to mitigate excess risk incurred during design, build, and test
  • Lead root cause investigations of significant anomalies during test/launch operations and drive corrective actions
  • Develop processes and tools to assess manufacturing issues, manage technical risk, and evaluate changes to vehicle configuration

About You:

  • An undergraduate degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of full-time experience with engineering problem solving in design, analysis, or test of systems
  • Knowledge of complex aerospace hardware and processes related to manufacturing, integration, testing or launch operations
  • Full product life cycle experience with a launch vehicle or spacecraft
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with proven ability to rapidly resolve interdisciplinary issues

Nice to Haves, but Not Required:

  • Experience with Mission Assurance, Reliability Analysis, or Systems Safety
  • Direct hands-on experience in the rocket integration and launch operations
  • Experience with anomaly resolution, corrective actions, and lessons learned databases
  • Experience with engineering risk management, engineering configuration, and change management
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with both internal and external groups to overcome associated constraints
  • Self-starter and willing to continuously learn new skills to drive the process and technology throughout hardware development and testing

At Relativity Space, we are committed to transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
Compensation is only one part of our total rewards package. Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, a generous PTO and sick leave policy, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and more! To see some of the benefits & perks we offer, please visit here.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
