Job Description Summary

STEMCELL Technologies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide technical support and leadership across mechanical engineering activities for our continued Greater Vancouver expansion. This is a very unique opportunity for engineers that want to grow their skills and create an impact within the Canadian (and global) biotechnology market.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will generate value as the Subject Matter Expert for internal stakeholders across the Facilities and Project Management teams and ensure expectations are clearly communicated and managed internally and externally . You will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and overseeing the production of mechanical systems, equipment, and devices including HVAC, fire protection, building automation, and control systems from concept to production. This is a key role for the company as you will represent STEMCELL’s commitment to quality and integrity in the successful execution of projects. You'll be working on complex and complicated problems and need a strong focus on design best practices and principles to achieve engineering excellence.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the pursuit of leading-edge engineering solutions for various mechanical facilities systems, including preparation of engineering documentation and equipment specifications to meet scope of work (e.g. HVAC Engineering and Design, load/energy modeling calculations, etc).

  • Collaborate with and make recommendations to internal stakeholder groups to identify, develop and articulate their requirements into varying options for the systems being designed

  • Represent STEMCELL as an Owner’s Engineer on varying projects and assignments to help define and articulate user group mechanical requirements on projects varying in scope, cost and complexity

  • Conduct quality reviews throughout the design, construction and commissioning process to ensure best practice design principles are adhered to, and design and construction practices meet the requirements of applicable codes and standards to satisfy authority having jurisdiction

  • Support Facilities Projects in the development of mechanical and related scopes of work on projects, including providing technical support to the facility maintenance and reliability teams; may be required to take lead in the management of consulting engineers/contractors for the safe, reliable and efficient execution of these projects

Knowledge and Responsibilities

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing in the Province of British Columbia (required) with requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of mechanical and/or plumbing codes, energy codes, ASHRAE standards and other applicable codes.

  • 10+ years mechanical engineering and design experience on major complex building projects - experience with biopharma and/or biotech industry and specifically with cGMP/cGLP design practices is highly desirable

  • Excellent knowledge of CAD modelling

  • Experience working with building codes and in different delivery models such as EPC/EPCM, design-build, design-bid-build, etc with an advanced understanding of quality standards relative to mechanical design and planning, engineering fundamentals and principles

The annual salary for this job ranges from:

$98,900.00 - $148,300.00

STEMCELL determines an individual’s pay within the range based on multiple factors including experience, education, job-related skills, and equity within the team or organization. For jobs that are eligible for sales incentives, the range noted above is inclusive of target incentives; actual incentives are based on individual performance results in accordance with company policy. In addition to base salary, STEMCELL offers a comprehensive total rewards package including health benefits, retirement savings, and more.
