Senior Mechanical Engineer - Propellant Plant

Starpath Robotics is developing a full-stack solution for propellant production on the Moon, from mining to refilling landing craft. As part of this mission, we’re looking to expand our mechanical engineering capabilities, and that starts with you. As a Starpath Mechanical Engineer on the Plant team, you would be responsible for the design & build of subsystems and components for the conversion of Lunar-derived materials into propellant, with the additional responsibility of directing your hardware from the prototype phase into Lunar surface operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test subsystems & components for prototyping towards ultimate use on the Lunar surface.

  • Define & justify system requirements, conduct trade space analysis, document decision processes, and write operational procedures.

  • Interface with adjacent teams to cohesively integrate hardware with supporting subsystems.

  • Mentor junior engineers, identify & address opportunities to accelerate the team.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of engineering experience

  • Experience with CAD and detailed engineering calculations/analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to own projects from start to finish

  • High levels of personal agency & productivity

  • A strong desire to help permanently establish humanity off-Earth

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree in a technical field

  • Experience with design of hardware for space applications

  • Experience with one or more of the following engineering domains:

    • Structures

    • Cryogenics

    • Mechatronics

    • Thermal systems

  • Evidence of exceptional achievement

Position Details

  • Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne

  • Hiring for this position at all post-graduate levels of candidate experience

  • Salary base rate is $130-$160k/yr, plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience.

  • PTO & health/dental/vision coverage included

  • ITAR/EAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
