Manage and mentor a team of UX designers while leading the design vision and ensuring high-quality user experiences for Teamfight Tactics.

UX Designers at Riot work in complex, high-scope product areas. This means handling end-to-end experience design for features that span multiple teams, working collaboratively from initial concept through development. While this is a leadership role, our design managers contribute individually as well, so you will have ample opportunity to keep your own craft sharp.
As the Senior UX Design Manager on Teamfight Tactics (TFT), you will manage, mentor, and guide the UX designers on the project, ensuring they grow in their careers and deliver their best work toward the team’s goals. You’ll report to the Design Director, helping to shape the long-term interactive vision and flow for the game, and translating the product strategy into clear UX goals and priorities.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the UX Team: Manage and coach the project’s UX designers to help them reach their full potential and drive superb results for the teams that depend on UX expertise
  • Define the TFT Vision: Partner with design, product, and art leadership to identify the best future directions for the user experience, especially as we transition into the Unreal Engine, then create and execute the UX design goals to get there
  • Insist on Quality: Maintain a high standard for design, ensuring all work meets Riot's demanding craft expectations
  • Champion the Player: Stay connected to the player experience and know how to integrate player feedback into roadmaps and feature decisions
  • Build Partnerships: Work closely with other discipline leads to ensure the UX team is delivering what is needed, on time. You'll also scope features efficiently for project planning and foster strong relationships with teams outside of TFT
  • Grow the Team: Take an active role in recruiting and onboarding to make sure capable UXers join and quickly get up to speed
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of UX design experience, including work on mobile platforms and deep engagement with a complex game
  • Must have examples of shipped UX work at a principal level
  • Experience collaborating with game designers, engaging in game design and playtest discussion, and the ability to factor game design considerations into your work
  • 3+ years of experience as a manager
  • Proven leadership resolving conflict across teams, fostering a healthy team culture, and track record of managing other designers with positive outcomes (promotions, performance improvement, and strong delivery).
Desired Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of UX design experience, especially in strategy, competitive PvP, and mobile games
  • Professional game design experience
  • Deep engagement with Teamfight Tactics

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise and a collaborative spirit that prioritizes the delight of players. We will look at your past studies and experience, but for this role, we also look for dedicated people with a personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this is the role for you!

Our Perks:

Riot focuses on work/life balance, shown by our open paid time off policy and other perks such as flexible work schedules. We offer medical, dental, and life insurance, parental leave for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and children, and a 401k with company match. Check out our benefits pages for more information.

At Riot Games, we put players first. That mission drives every decision in our quest to create games and experiences that make it better to be a player. Whether you’re working directly on a new player-facing experience or you’re supporting the company as a whole, everyone at Riot is part of our mission. And just like in our games, we’re better when we work together. Our goal is to create collaborative teams where you are empowered to bring your unique perspective everyday. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, we’re looking forward to your application.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
