Job Summary:
Responsible for overall preparation of ASC 740 reporting, as well as various federal, state and international tax compliance obligations for Cubic Corporation and subsidiaries in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Directs staff on larger projects including corporate compliance initiatives and assists with federal and state tax controversies. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
General
- Directs shared tax staff resources and is responsible for and manages larger projects.
- Ensures timely delivery of high-quality work product.
Tax Accounting
- Subject matter expert for ASC 740 and FIN 48. Responsibility for preparation and review of tax accounting in accordance with ASC 740 and FIN 48 including coordination of tax accounting for statutory audit purposes
- Prepares and review return-to-provision adjustments, ensuring updates to future processes/data as necessary.
- Works cross-functionally with other departments to resolve issues and create analysis.
Tax Compliance
- Responsible for managing tax compliance including preparation of work papers, working with external advisors on federal, state, local tax filings.
- Reviews tax work papers and returns prepared by tax staff.
- Prepares/reviews the analysis of complex domestic issues, such as revenue recognition, method changes and look-back interest.
- Forecast income tax expenses, cash taxes, and income tax rates for reporting and tax distribution planning
- Provide tax support for M&A activities
- Handle IRS, state agency audits, inquiries, and notices.
Research and Planning
- Performs and documents tax research as required.
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax developments that might impact the company
- Works with Sr. Director of Tax with outside tax advisors on special projects, as required.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Four-year college degree plus a minimum of twelve years of multinational corporate tax experience ideally with a blend of Big 4 and corporate public experience desired
- Advanced degree and active Certified Public Accountant, preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Experience with SAP a plus. Knowledge of how to perform and document tax research.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740/FIN 48.
- Strong leadership and personnel management skills, including ability to work autonomously.
- Demonstrated flexibility in prioritizing and consistently completing tasks under deadlines.
- Effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
- Strong accounting and analytical skills, including problem solving and attention to detail.
- Able to both effectively motivate and work as part of a team toward meeting department goals.

Cubic Pay Range:
$110,000.00 - $160,000.00* + benefits.
*Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from our lowest geographic market up to our highest geographic market.
