At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Senior Manager, Tax Planning & Business Advisory role sits at the intersection of global tax planning and business advisory — partnering closely with business leaders to understand where Netflix is headed, and working across the tax organization to ensure our structure is optimized to enable growth. You'll bring strong judgment to complex, fast-moving situations, serve as a trusted advisor to key business lines, and help shape how the tax team shows up as a strategic partner across the company.

This role will report into our Director of Tax and have 1-2 direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as senior tax business partner for key business lines (including advertising and related initiatives), and advise on strategic decisions, new business models, and key commercial developments
  • Build and maintain high-trust relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, including Legal, Finance, and Business Operations, to stay ahead of business developments and ensure tax is represented at the right moments
  • Partner with and drive alignment across the Tax org on new business developments, ensuring coordinated and consistent advice across tax specialties
  • Translate tax considerations into practical contracting and operational positions, including impact on characterization, withholding, and profit attributions
  • Assess, design, and drive implementation of tax planning projects, from structuring through execution and integration
  • Evaluate M&A transactions and strategic investments for tax implications, partnering with internal and external advisors to support diligence and integration
  • Manage external advisors and coordinate advice and input across tax specialties and regions to develop a consistent tax position for the department
  • Directly manage 1 to 2 reports - provide coaching, give ongoing feedback, and scale the standard of our advisory practice

What we're looking for

  • 12+ years of tax experience, with a strong foundation in US international tax and demonstrated experience advising on complex cross-border structures
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a trusted business partner - comfortable in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where judgment matters as much as technical knowledge
  • Experience with transfer pricing concepts and cross-functional project management
  • Experience in analyzing tax implications and advising businesses on new offerings or customer arrangements
  • Experience supporting international expansion and cross-border operating models
  • Strong communicator who can translate technical tax analysis into clear, actionable guidance for non-tax audiences
  • Ability to distill complex tax and operational requirements and develop a playbook or procedure to allow scalable support and partnership with the business
  • Collaborator who can build alignment across teams rather than working in isolation
  •  In-house experience at a multinational or leading law/advisory firm supporting complex business clients is preferred
  • JD preferred, but not required

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
