At Nuna, our mission is to make high-quality healthcare affordable for everyone. We are dedicated to tackling one of our nation’s biggest problems with ingenuity, creativity, and a keen moral compass.

Nuna is committed to simple principles: a rigorous understanding of data, modern technology, and most importantly, compassion and care for our fellow human. We want to know what really works, what doesn't—and why.

Nuna has established its brand in the B2B space over the last decade by shifting the US healthcare system towards an incentive model that rewards healthcare providers for positive outcomes. Marshalling our collective backgrounds and insights, we are now crafting an innovative, consumer app - a clinically driven healthcare companion experience that leverages AI, gamification and social support techniques to improve outcomes for people with chronic conditions.

As a sign of the impact Nuna has already made in this space, Nuna was recently selected to join the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Health Tech Ecosystem, a landmark public-private initiative designed to transform healthcare for Americans.

YOUR TEAM

The Nuna Enterprise Engineering team is building a consumer-facing portal to manage communication and PHI data transactions between Nuna and our health systems, care team partners and patient focused mobile application. Capabilities include support for multi-channel CRM, CPaaS, BI tooling, EHR integrations.

YOUR OPPORTUNITIES

Nuna is in a unique position to become a market leader in transforming the healthcare experience. We are leveraging empathic, personalized AI to build a new generation of tools for patients, clinicians, and caregivers. We’re not just improving systems; we’re fundamentally changing how people manage their healthcare journey.

We are looking for a Sr Manager of Software Engineering to lead the team at the heart of this mission. You will be responsible for building the secure, consumer-facing portal that manages all sensitive communication and data transactions between Nuna and our enterprise partners. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to shape our technology, our team, and the future of our platform.

You will:

  • Lead, manage, and grow a high-performing team of front-end, back-end, and full-stack engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Own the end-to-end technical roadmap and delivery for our enterprise platform. You will partner closely with engineers to understand progress, remove roadblocks, and ensure your team is executing efficiently and effectively.

  • Take ownership of the engineering project management lifecycle for your team. You'll work with Product Management to define scope and timelines, but you will be responsible for the "how" and "when" of delivery, ensuring predictable and high-quality releases.

  • Champion cross-functional collaboration. Build strong, effective partnerships with our Mobile, Data, Product, and Design teams to ensure we are building a cohesive and unified product experience.

  • Actively participate in brainstorming and strategic planning with partner teams. Challenge assumptions, propose creative solutions, and guide your team to find the simplest, most effective path to deliver value.

  • Take ownership of key engineering processes at Nuna, driving a culture of excellence, best practices, and technical rigor across the entire organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record of managing and scaling software engineering teams, with proven success in meeting ambitious delivery deadlines.

  • An expert understanding of how to deliver value quickly in a fast paced startup environment. You build what's needed now, avoiding unnecessary complexity while laying the groundwork for future scale.

  • You have the technical "chops" to command the respect of senior engineers. You can dive deep into system design, architecture, sizing, and trade-offs without needing constant translation.

  • You are a trusted partner to Product Management, Data and Design, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to define, prioritize, and build outstanding products.

  • You are a team player who naturally avoids silos and excels at working with peer engineering leaders and stakeholders across the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the healthcare technology sector (e.g., EHR integrations, FHIR, HIPAA compliance)

  • A hands-on background with the ability to contribute to proof-of-concept work when necessary

We take into account an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary. This role is eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, participation in the company’s equity program, paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. The expected salary range for this position is $200,900 to $267,900. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
