The role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Secured Commercial Real Estate Lending to help lead SoFi Bank’s secured commercial real estate lending function. This role will oversee complex workflows across the commercial lending lifecycle, including origination, underwriting, credit administration, portfolio management, servicing coordination, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.

This leader will be responsible for driving day-to-day execution, operational planning, resourcing, KPIs, KRIs, credit strategy implementation, portfolio discipline, and risk monitoring for the secured commercial real estate lending unit. The Senior Manager will partner closely with Credit, Risk, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Servicing, and senior leadership to ensure the function operates with strong governance, sound credit judgment, scalable processes, and clear accountability.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial lending and credit leader with deep expertise in secured commercial real estate lending, strong problem-solving skills, and experience leading complex workflows across teams or business environments.

What you’ll do:Lead complex commercial lending workflows
  • Lead key workflows across the secured commercial real estate lending lifecycle, including originations, underwriting, credit administration, portfolio monitoring, servicing handoffs, and borrower management.
  • Independently manage day-to-day operations, planning, prioritization, and resourcing for the commercial real estate lending team.
  • Support the execution of the strategic roadmap for the unit, aligning team priorities with broader credit, risk, financial, operational, and regulatory objectives.
  • Establish and manage KPIs, KRIs, operating routines, reporting standards, and portfolio performance expectations.
  • Partner with senior leadership on decisions that may have long-range implications for credit strategy, growth, risk appetite, and operational execution.
Drive credit strategy execution, risk management, and portfolio oversight
  • Help develop, implement, and refine credit strategy for secured commercial real estate lending.
  • Ensure lending activity is consistent with approved credit policy, risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and business objectives.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, credit quality, borrower trends, collateral performance, concentration risk, and emerging risk indicators.
  • Lead analysis and resolution of complex credit, operational, market, and servicing issues that may impact the portfolio.
  • Recommend changes to underwriting standards, credit procedures, approval workflows, loan review routines, and portfolio governance.
Own operating discipline and performance management
  • Manage performance against business goals, credit metrics, risk indicators, and profitability expectations.
  • Build and maintain management reporting for production, portfolio trends, credit quality, exceptions, risk concentrations, and operational performance.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to improve scalability, efficiency, control effectiveness, and execution quality.
  • Support audit, regulatory, loan review, and internal governance activities by ensuring strong documentation, controls, and reporting practices.
  • Partner with Finance and Risk to support forecasting, loss expectations, profitability analysis, and broader portfolio strategy.
Partner cross-functionally to drive execution
  • Partner with Risk, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Servicing, Product, and other stakeholders to support consistent execution and appropriate governance.
  • Influence function-level decisions through partnership with senior leaders, cross-functional teams, and higher-level individual contributors.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate risk of operational delays, costs, resource constraints, credit issues, or servicing challenges.
  • Prepare and present updates on business performance, portfolio health, risk trends, key decisions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Escalate material credit, operational, compliance, regulatory, or servicing matters in a timely and effective manner.
Lead and develop the team
  • Lead and develop a team that may include associate managers, supervisors, credit professionals, portfolio managers, underwriters, and individual contributors.
  • Set clear expectations for performance, accountability, communication, decision-making, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coach team members to strengthen credit judgment, execution discipline, technical expertise, and business ownership.
  • Support appropriate team coverage, workload management, and continuity across the lending lifecycle.
  • Foster a culture of strong credit discipline, collaboration, ownership, risk awareness, and continuous improvement.
Skills that make someone successful in this role:
  • Deep experience in commercial real estate lending, commercial credit, portfolio management, credit administration, or related financial services disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of secured commercial real estate lending, including origination, underwriting, collateral analysis, risk rating, portfolio monitoring, borrower management, and servicing coordination.
  • Ability to solve highly complex problems within commercial lending and credit that shape the direction of the function.
  • Strong credit judgment and ability to take calculated risks while consulting senior leadership on decisions with long-range implications.
  • Experience managing complex workflows, operating routines, resourcing, and execution across teams or business environments.
  • Strong understanding of bank credit policy, risk appetite, portfolio governance, regulatory expectations, audit readiness, and control environments.
  • Experience developing and managing KPIs, KRIs, credit quality metrics, portfolio reporting, concentration monitoring, and management-level performance updates.
  • Ability to identify emerging risks, develop action plans, and lead cross-functional teams through resolution.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex credit, risk, operational, and strategic matters.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, business partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive business results.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through growth, process improvement, modernization, or operational change.
  • Strong discipline around documentation, controls, policy adherence, governance, and consistent execution.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of related experience in commercial real estate lending, commercial credit, banking, risk management, portfolio management, or a related financial services discipline; or Master’s degree and 10+ years of related experience.
  • Significant experience leading commercial real estate credit, lending, portfolio management, or credit administration functions, preferably within a regulated bank or financial institution.
  • Experience leading multiple complex workflows across teams or business environments.
  • Experience managing credit strategy execution, portfolio performance, underwriting standards, credit policy, risk indicators, business metrics, and portfolio governance.
  • Experience leading both origination-facing and portfolio management or servicing-adjacent workflows across the commercial lending lifecycle.
  • Experience managing day-to-day operations, planning, execution, prioritization, and resourcing for a team or function.
  • Experience leading teams, developing talent, and managing associate managers, supervisors, or individual contributors.
  • Familiarity with bank regulatory expectations, CECL, credit loss forecasting, regulatory exams, internal audits, loan review, or enterprise risk management.
  • Experience modernizing credit policies, underwriting standards, operating procedures, reporting frameworks, controls, or governance routines.
  • Experience preparing senior management, audit, regulatory, or portfolio performance reporting.
  • Experience supporting or managing commercial real estate lending through periods of growth, market stress, operational change, or business transformation.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
