At 1Password, we’re building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Extended Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 165,000 businesses and millions of people trust us to provide seamless, secure access to their most critical information.

If you're excited about the opportunity to contribute to the digital safety of millions, to work alongside a team of curious, driven individuals, and to solve hard problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you. Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future.

Our Experience, Design and Research (EDR) team is at the heart of this mission—transforming complex security challenges into elegant, human-centered experiences. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a strong design culture built on customer empathy and innovation.

We are looking for a Senior Product Design Manager to lead a talented team of designers within our XAM (Extended Access Management) group, focusing on designing seamless, secure, and user-friendly experiences that empower organizations to manage access to their systems and data. As part of a growing team, this is a unique opportunity to help define and drive design for a critical area of the business.

As a Senior Manager, Product Design, you’ll lead design efforts across key areas related to user access, control, and security. You’ll collaborate closely with a cross-functional team—including Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing—to align on strategy and execution. We're seeking a strategic, hands-on leader with a passion for designing intuitive, scalable solutions that enable organizations to maintain secure and efficient workflows.

You’re a leader who thrives in a complex, evolving space and excels at driving end-to-end product design. With your strong communication skills, you’ll partner with multiple teams to ensure the product vision is clear and achievable. You will mentor and support your team, driving success and fostering growth.

You’re a leader who doesn’t just identify problems—you jump in with creative, actionable solutions. You excel at managing complex projects, establishing the right level of process to get things done, and taking initiative to keep your team aligned and moving forward. With a strategic mindset, a growth-focused approach, and a passion for mentoring, you guide your team to success—always driving progress without waiting for direction.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What we're looking for:

  • Design Expertise: 6-8+ years in product design, with experience in UX, systems design, UI, and information architecture at scale in a B2B SaaS company. Experience designing for cybersecurity products with a strong understanding of how to create secure yet user-friendly experiences is ideal.

  • Proven Product Leadership: 5+ years of managing design teams and projects with measurable impact on organizational success.

  • Mentorship & Growth: A proven track record of coaching and developing design teams to reach their full potential.

  • Strategic & Hands-on Leadership: Balancing long-term strategy with short-term goals, inspiring your team to take action and drive results.

  • Effective Communication: Ability to clearly articulate design value and lead the design process from start to finish.

  • Collaborative Partner: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and marketing.

  • Growth Mindset: Passion for continuous learning and leading scalable, high-impact design teams.

  • Project Management: Ability to align your team with the right processes to deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Talent Recruitment: Helping recruit and onboard top talent to build a strong, capable design team.

  • AI leadership: Familiarity and curiosity with using AI to support and enhance design work, as well as leveraging AI within the product to creatively solve customer problems.

What you can expect:

  • Lead the product design team for the 1Password XAM experience in areas related to secure, flexible user access and system controls.

  • Drive end-to-end design for intuitive policy creation flows, user interactions, and management solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on product strategy and execution, ensuring clear goals and priorities for the team.

  • Mentor, build, and develop a team of strong product designers.

  • Plan design team performance, workload, and career development, supporting your team's growth and success.

Month 1
  • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering, Marketing) to understand priorities, product strategy, and the XAM roadmap.

  • Understand current team strengths, areas of opportunity, workflows, and ongoing design initiatives.

  • Gain familiarity with 1Password’s product suite, design system, and customer pain points, particularly around secure access and control.

Month 3
  • Drive delivery of impactful design solutions for XAM, showing measurable improvement in usability and security.

  • Guide design work and mentor team members through feedback and development conversations, beginning to shape career paths and growth opportunities.

  • Contribute to the design leadership team helping to shape product cohesion, team culture and drive experience goals

Month 6
  • Support the team in defining a design vision for the XAM product area, aligning with company strategy and ensuring the team understands priorities.

  • Champion design within the broader org by advocating for user-centered decisions, influencing product direction, and demonstrating design’s business impact.

  • Partner with recruiting to identify and onboard new design talent as needed, while fostering a culture of innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged at 1Password—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
