Position Summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Corporate Counsel to coordinate global monitoring and analysis of privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) regulations. Within the organization's Global Office for Privacy and Technology (GPTO), this position plays a pivotal role in anticipating, evaluating, and navigating a multifaceted global regulatory landscape.

This is a high-impact position for a legal professional with deep expertise in global data governance, emerging technology regulation, and policy strategy, who enjoys translating evolving law into business reality! This opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys analyzing complex legal developments, translating them into actionable mentorship, and partnering across the business to support innovation responsibly.

How You Will Make an Impact

The key task of the Corporate Counsel, Senior Manager position is to aid the organization in conforming to worldwide regulations related to global technology, data protection, and cybersecurity. They must have the capacity to work independently, but to also be confident enough to raise concerns where appropriate. This position will:

  • Stay updated and provide guidance to the Global Privacy and Technology Office regarding global technology, cybersecurity, and data privacy laws, regulations, and standards to support organizational compliance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with relevant artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and privacy laws and regulations across the organization
  • Recognize privacy-related issues and identify creative and compliant solutions to enable the Thermo Fisher Scientific business to grow and develop its use of data.
  • Collaborate with other members from the Global Privacy and Technology Office to provide consistent and cohesive guidance to the business.
  • Develop, maintain, and update privacy procedures, notices, authorization forms, and other documentation required for the proper processing of personal data by assigned business areas.
  • Review and advise on Thermo Fisher’s data protection agreements with clients and vendors.
  • Manage, monitor, track and maintain business requests within the privacy management tool powered by TrustArc.
  • Develop and continuously improve the Global Privacy and Technology Office’s legislative tracking dashboard and compliance initiatives.
  • Educate and train employees on data protection and privacy policies and procedures.
Keys to SuccessEducation
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent international legal degree.
  • Current license to practice law in at least one U.S. state or recognized jurisdiction.
  • Certifications in privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPT, CIPM) and/or cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP, CISM) preferred.
  • Fluency in business English required, proficiency in other languages is a plus.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, with direct focus on privacy, cybersecurity, or emerging technology regulatory issues.
  • Deep knowledge of global legal frameworks including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA,
  • Proficient with EU Directives and regulatory frameworks as well as international cybersecurity standards.
  • Proven track record leading legal research, legislative analysis, and regulatory tracking functions.
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate sophisticated regulatory content to non-legal audiences.
  • Experience developing or managing legislative tracking tools, dashboards, or compliance alerts.
  • Strong cross-functional teamwork skills and ability to lead meetings with legal, compliance, product, and operational teams.
  • High attention to detail, excellent legal judgment, and comfort working autonomously in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Practical approach with ability to connect the “what” of legal requirements to the “how” of implementation.
  • Passion for continuous learning and creative problem-solving.
