Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

Joby is a next-generation aviation company redefining what’s possible in sustainable, zero-emissions flight—making clean, accessible air travel a reality worldwide. Headquartered in California, Joby is certifying an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing air taxi to operate a fast, quiet, and on-demand air taxi service in cities around the world and sell its aircraft to other operators and partners.

By leveraging our deep vertical integration, we are uniquely positioned to lead the transformation of air mobility. Our approach allows us to move quickly, maintain quality at every step, and deliver a seamless experience for passengers and partners alike.

Our commercialization efforts are focused across three strategic areas:

  • Building and operating our own air taxi service in key cities around the world
  • Direct sales of our aircraft to defense and commercial customers
  • Partnered air taxi operations in regions where collaboration accelerates market entry and growth

The Corporate & Business Development team at Joby is growing, and we’re looking to bring on a new dynamic leader to help launch our market in South Korea. This team is at the center of Joby’s growth strategy—shaping how we commercialize across our business. You’ll work alongside finance, operations, legal, and the senior executive leadership to turn strategy into execution—rapidly and at scale. This role will work closely with the Senior Leadership across all functional areas at Joby.

This is a dynamic, dual-mandate role combining policy and government affairs with commercial partnership development. You’ll build the regulatory and stakeholder foundation — and the commercial partnerships — that South Korea’s advanced urban air mobility (UAM) ecosystem needs to bring air taxi service to market.

You will serve as a key commercial and policy leader for Joby’s South Korea market, owning engagement with national and local government authorities, priority stakeholder relationships, and early-stage commercial strategy. This role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution and will directly shape how Joby scales internationally.

You’ll shape Joby’s policy positioning with Korean regulators and infrastructure authorities, while also spearheading strategic partnership deals across air taxi services, vertiport infrastructure, and regional operations. Partnering closely with technical and operations teams, you’ll assess feasibility, model value, co-create agreement frameworks, and ensure effective transition into deployment. We’re looking for true execution muscle—driven, strategic, and purposefully bold.

Today, some of our global commercial partners include Toyota Motor Corporation, the Department of Defense of the United States, Delta Airlines, Uber, the Road and Transportation Authority of Dubai (RTA), Jetex, Abdul Latif Jameel, Virgin Atlantic, L3Harris, and many more.

Responsibilities

Policy & Government Engagement

  • Serve as Joby’s primary point of contact with national and local Korean authorities, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), and relevant metropolitan/city governments, on UAM policy and regulatory matters
  • Track and help shape South Korea’s evolving UAM regulatory roadmap, including certification pathways, airspace integration, and vertiport standards, ensuring alignment with Joby’s market-entry timeline
  • Represent Joby in industry working groups, government-led pilot programs, and public-private demonstration initiatives related to advanced air mobility
  • Build trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators, and quasi-government bodies, positioning Joby as a credible, long-term partner in Korea’s aviation and mobility future
  • Translate policy developments into actionable commercial and operational guidance for internal teams

Partnership Strategy & Deal-Making

  • Lead full-cycle partnership creation with government, quasi-government, and private sector partners—source, structure, negotiate, and close high-impact agreements
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partners across infrastructure, telecommunications, mobility, and conglomerate ecosystems to support vertiport development, operations, and go-to-market plans
  • Negotiate pragmatic, advancing agreements—knowing when and where to push for optimum outcomes
  • Drive deal handoff to operations—establish workflows, launch pilots, and monitor execution with integrity
  • Define and evolve Joby’s commercial strategy for the South Korea market and the broader region
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scope opportunities, align objectives, and ensure successful execution
  • Communicate with clarity—concise memos, crisp summaries, and purposeful decks for both government and commercial audiences
  • Represent Joby with senior external stakeholders, building lasting relationships with corporations, governments, infrastructure partners, and investors
Required
  • 8+ years in business development, government affairs, corporate strategy, or deal-making roles with a track record of structuring and closing strategic or commercial agreements—ideally in fast-moving sectors (e.g., aviation, aerospace, mobility, defense, management consulting)
  • Solid grasp of the South Korean regulatory and government ecosystem, with direct experience engaging national ministries, regulators, or public agencies
  • Korean language proficiency required; English fluency also required for close collaboration with global teams
  • A self-starter with a get-it-done mindset that thrives in dynamic and fast-paced environments
  • Excellent persuasive communication, stakeholder alignment, and negotiation abilities across both government and commercial counterparts
  • Trusted partner to senior executives, comfortable operating with ambiguity, exercising sound judgment, and representing Joby with credibility at the highest levels
  • Willingness to occasionally work during US business hours and travel regionally and internationally
Desired
  • MBA or advanced degree
  • Experience with establishing, maintaining, and fostering C-level relationships
  • Previous experience in advanced mobility, real estate, or the aviation/aerospace industry
  • Experience in bringing and scaling new and emerging products/business lines to market
  • Ability to build innovative product experiences and go-to-market models
  • Expertise in  partnering and negotiating with public sector organizations
  • Ability to challenge and influence various groups across organizations
  • Expertise in negotiating real estate and infrastructure deals

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
