Summary
Topstep is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel – Media to join its dynamic Legal team. Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel – Media will provide legal support across the company’s fintech, trading evaluation, and SaaS-based product offerings and its live streaming platform, TopstepTV, with a focus on regulatory compliance in marketing, advertising, and sweepstakes matters, media, brand protection, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have 4–6 years of legal experience advising fintech companies, trading firms, or SaaS providers, with a strong understanding of consumer protection and trademark law obligations applicable to a fast-growing fintech platform.
This is an excellent opportunity for a pragmatic, business-oriented lawyer to work cross-functionally with creative, marketing, media, leadership, and compliance teams to support innovation while managing legal and regulatory risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on a broad range of matters impacting Topstep’s creative, marketing, advertising and promotional teams, including campaign development, website content, promotional materials, and brand initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements related to enforcements, influencer collaborations, media-related consents and sweepstakes and contest rules.
- Support legal aspects of digital marketing initiatives, including website content, social media posts, marketing collateral, and advertising claims.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal policies, guidelines, and templates to protect and enforce Topstep’s brand, including trademark enforcement, respecting third party intellectual property rights, and advising on branding and naming strategies.
- Oversee with assistance from intellectual property counsel Topstep’s trademark portfolio and monitor for potential infringement.
- Conduct legal research and provide practical advice to leadership on legal risks, regulatory trends, and contract matters.
- Participate in training initiatives and presentations to internal teams regarding legal and compliance topics.
- Manage outside counsel as needed for specialized matters.
Required Qualifications and Key Competencies
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 4–6 years of legal experience either in-house or at a mid-to-large law firm, preferably serving clients on marketing matters in B2C fintech, trading, SaaS, or financial services.
- Solid experience drafting and negotiating sweepstakes and official rules, licensing agreements, endorsement and influencer agreements, and other commercial contracts.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks applicable to consumer protection and brand matters, including sweepstakes laws, intellectual property laws, and FTC advertising guidelines.
- Strong business acumen and ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing demands.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, document management systems, and collaboration tools.
Preferred Skills
- Prior in-house counsel experience at a fintech company, trading firm, or SaaS provider, or prior experience at a mid-to-large law firm advising clients in these sectors.
- Experience with CFTC obligations in marketing and advertising.
- Knowledge of global regulatory considerations for consumer protection matters.

New Hire Base Salary Range
- $175,000-$200,000
- Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
- The compensation offered will take into account internal compensation structure and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
