About this role 

Are you passionate about building technology that powers a global delivery network? Our Logistics Engineering department is at the heart of the Just Eat Takeaway.com experience, responsible for the entire delivery lifecycle of millions of orders and supporting our vast network of couriers.

The Courier Personal Information and Communication team plays a critical role in this mission. We focus on ensuring the security and compliance of couriers, while also building communication tools that provide a seamless and effective experience for our couriers to interact with support agents and customers.

As a key member of our team, you'll be instrumental in developing new product features and maintaining essential services. You'll have the opportunity to make a real impact, building the tools and systems that keep our platform running smoothly and help deliver a great experience for all.

Reporting to: Technology Manager

These are some of the key ingredients to the role: 
  • Lead the full lifecycle of product development, from initial concept to deployment and ongoing enhancements, for new features.

  • Maintain and improve existing products, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and performant.

  • Provide crucial support to our production environment, addressing and resolving issues to maintain system reliability.

  • Contribute to the team's success by conducting thorough code and architecture reviews to ensure high-quality standards.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers and other teams to align on goals and deliver cohesive solutions.

  • Tackle complex technical challenges, designing and implementing innovative solutions to solve our toughest problems.

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

  • Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions, influencing the long-term direction of our services and systems.

What will you bring to the table?
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a humble and inquisitive approach to challenges.

  • Proactive and analytical mindset, with the ability to identify issues and opportunities before they arise.

  • Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, international, and dynamic business environment.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical teams.

  • Proven experience of at least 5 years developing applications using Java

  • Deep understanding of data persistence and caching strategies, with hands-on experience in various database types and caching systems.

  • Experience designing and leading microservices architectural initiatives and deep understanding of RESTful APIs and messaging-based systems.

  • Expertise in software engineering fundamentals, such as data structures, design patterns, testing methodologies and debugging.

  • Proficiency in more than one programming language, demonstrating a versatile and adaptable skill set. 

  • Proven ability to mentor junior developers, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate the team's overall skill level.
