The future of defense will be decided by those who field intelligent machines at scale. At Scout AI, we're developing Fury, the first robotic foundation model for defense, to give U.S. forces overwhelming, adaptable, and autonomous power across every domain. Fury enables human operators to command fleets of robots through natural language, and empowers those machines to sense, decide, and act together as one. This mission will ask everything of us: urgency, precision, and relentless work.

The Role

Scout AI is seeking a Senior IT Infrastructure & Security Engineer to design, build, and operate a secure network and infrastructure that protects CUI data and maintains CMMC Level 2 compliance. You'll be our first dedicated networking hire, owning the entire stack from network architecture and data segmentation to device management and IT operations.

Your primary focus is building a secure, compliant network foundation. You'll design network architecture that protects sensitive data, implement CMMC Level 2 controls, and automate operations (device provisioning, monitoring, deployments).

This role combines network design, infrastructure-as-code, IT operations, and compliance. You'll own network segmentation and data flows, build compliant infrastructure on AWS/Azure, manage company devices and access control, automate operational tasks with code, and maintain systems when things break.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure network architecture that protects CUI and enforces network segmentation per NIST SP 800-171
  • Build and maintain CMMC-compliant infrastructure: access controls, encryption, monitoring, and audit logging
  • Develop and maintain Scout's System Security Plan
  • Implement network hardening, intrusion detection, and threat monitoring; manage firewall rules and VPNs
  • Architect, deploy, and operate cloud and on-premises infrastructure supporting all Scout operations
  • Provision and manage employee devices; maintain OS patches, software updates, and hardware refresh cycles
  • Design and roll out identity management with automated provisioning
  • Provide hands-on support for employee IT issues and help desk ticket triage
  • Build infrastructure-as-code solutions to automate provisioning, configuration, and scaling
  • Develop Python/Bash scripts to automate operational tasks and compliance validation
  • Establish infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerting as repeatable, auditable code
  • Design and implement automated backup procedures and disaster recovery plans
  • Respond to outages and security incidents; conduct root-cause analysis and remediation
  • Coordinate with compliance team on CMMC requirements, audit preparation, and policy implementation

Qualifications

  • 7+ years hands-on network and infrastructure engineering in enterprise or defense environments
  • CMMC and/or NIST SP 800-171 implementation
  • Infrastructure-as-code proficiency
  • Linux and Windows system administration; comfort with multiple operating systems
  • Python or Bash scripting; automation-first mindset
  • Deep understanding of network segmentation, access control, encryption, and compliance-driven architecture
  • Experience with identity and access management
  • Strong documentation discipline and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Startup or scale-up infrastructure experience
  • Experience building internal tools or scripts that scale operational efficiency
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities
  • Passion about defense of the United States and its allies
  • May be expected to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Why Join Scout

  • Work on the world's most important frontier, ensuring U.S. and allied dominance in the age of intelligent machines
  • Be a core part of a team building the first defense-specific robotic foundation model
  • Collaborate with some of the top engineers in autonomy, AI, and national security
  • See your work deployed on real systems
  • Help define the future of intelligent defense systems
  • Backed by Draper Associates, Booz Allen Ventures, PerotJain and other top investors

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package including base salary and bonus
  • Meaningful equity
  • Premium medical, dental, and vision plans with $0 paycheck contribution
  • Competitive PTO and company holiday calendar
  • Catered lunch daily and fully stocked kitchen
  • EV charging

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
