Own the HR function as a hands-on solo operator, managing recruiting, onboarding, multi-state payroll, benefits, HRIS data, compliance, policies, performance cycles, compensation operations, employee relations, engagement, and office administration. Being sick or injured is painful. Getting better shouldn’t be.

Most industries have been transformed by new technology. Healthcare is still waiting — and you can help change that.

Our mission is simple but ambitious: make healthcare accessible, transparent, and effortless for all. We put the consumer at the center, move fast and partner with forward-thinking providers to deliver software that makes care better, faster, and more human. This is work with real-world stakes — and you can help lead the way.

The Role

You're an experienced HR professional who balances day-to-day execution with operational rigor. You have owned core HR workflows across the employee lifecycle, including employee relations, performance cycles, compliance, compensation, benefits, and onboarding. You know what it takes to run programs cleanly and keep a growing team supported.

Partnering directly with our Head of G&A, you'll be the hands-on engine behind our People function. You look at practical HR challenges and design clear, reliable processes that keep things running smoothly. You understand how data, policy, and team needs intersect, and you enjoy turning strategy into reliable, well-executed operations.

You thrive as a solo operator within a collaborative G&A team. You see full ownership not as a burden but as an opportunity to move fast, take initiative, and run the HR function with a high degree of autonomy. You notice when a policy needs updating, a manager needs coaching, or a workflow needs streamlining, and you proactively drive the solution. You're a trusted partner who comfortably navigates sensitive matters with leaders, Finance, and Legal, bringing clarity, empathy, and structure to the team every day.

Location: Remote within the United States, with a preference for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Travel: This role includes occasional travel to our San Francisco office based on business and team needs.

What You’ll Own

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Manage end-to-end recruiting for key hires, partnering with team leads to define roles and build structured interview workflows
  • Execute a clean, context-rich onboarding roadmap that gets new hires ramped up and integrated quickly

HR Operations & Benefits

  • Own accurate multi-state payroll operations in partnership with Finance and our payroll provider and maintain data integrity across our HRIS and employee records
  • Manage health benefits administration, vendor relationships, annual open enrollment, and day-to-day employee inquiries
  • Partner with our in-country employment and payroll provider to support employees in Italy, maintain clear internal ownership, and coordinate appropriate local expertise on country-specific matters

Compliance & Policy Administration

  • Maintain and update internal HR policies and employee handbooks, and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements
  • Handle offboarding logistics, state-specific requirements, and exit interviews to drive continuous process improvement

Culture, Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Design, launch, and facilitate routine performance review cycles and tracking workflows
  • Support compensation-cycle operations and role benchmarking to keep our compensation bands competitive
  • Partner with the Head of G&A to track team health and run engagement touchpoints and team events that build meaningful relationships across the distributed team
  • Oversee our small San Francisco office, including vendors, supplies, space needs, and occasional travel for on-site support

What We're Looking For

  • 6-8 years of hands-on HR or People Operations experience, ideally in a remote, fast-paced tech startup or SaaS environment
  • Proven track record as a solo HR operator who thrives with autonomy, owns processes end-to-end, and drives work forward without hand-holding
  • Strong partnership skills, with experience collaborating alongside Finance, Legal, and IT to get work done
  • Deep operational familiarity with multi-state labor compliance, benefits administration, and modern HR tech stacks (e.g., Rippling, Slack)
  • Interest in using AI thoughtfully to improve HR operations while exercising sound judgment around confidentiality, accuracy, and human review
  • Exceptional EQ and problem-solving skills to handle sensitive employee relations issues and navigate organizational change smoothly

Salary ranges vary by location:

  • San Francisco & New York: $150,000 – $180,000
  • Colorado: $135,000 – $165,000
  • All other U.S. locations: $135,000 – $165,000

Actual compensation will be based on relevant experience, skills, and location.

Solv offers robust benefits, including:

  • Equity for full-time U.S.-based employees
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% of employee premiums covered
  • 401(k) plan
  • Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave
  • Monthly wellness reimbursement
  • Flexible time off
  • Company-paid life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage
  • Company contribution toward an HSA
  • Medical and dependent-care FSAs

This is an urgent hire. We expect to keep the posting open through October 15, 2026, but may close it earlier if we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications.

We are not able to sponsor or transfer employment visas for this role.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
