Why Polar?

It's never been easier to build, ship and scale software.

But it's never been harder to monetize it.

We're obsessed over solving this to empower the future one-developer unicorns.

These unicorns will be rare but inevitable. Whether in 3, 5, or 10+ years, they also symbolize a broader shift already in motion and accelerating:

  • Smaller & smaller teams with...

  • Exponential revenue/employee growth

  • Focusing fully on their core product and marketing. Delegating & automating everything else that's boilerplate – be it in their codebase or business operations.

Exceptional billing primitives, APIs, SDKs and abstractions are a crucial foundation, but not enough. They will need a full-fledged platform to oversee, manage and scale their business.

Turning their software into an international business in 6 lines of code.

Join our small, talented and engineering-led team across Europe to shape how future software businesses are built. We focus on shipping at high velocity to serve developers in unlocking their next stage with their business. Everything else is secondary.

Role & responsibilities

We’re hiring a Senior Growth Engineer to accelerate how developers discover, adopt, and succeed with Polar. You’ll work across our product, website, docs, and onboarding to improve activation, retention, revenue and our flywheel — building features and running experiments end-to-end.

  • Design and ship growth-focused features end-to-end: Onboarding flows, affiliate & referral systems, pricing experiments, campaigns, dashboards, and more

  • Build and evolve our growth data stack from warehouse, dashboards, and self-serve analytics for the team

  • Run rapid A/B tests and funnel experiments.

  • Improve developer onboarding: docs, sample apps, SDK integration flows

  • Collaborate with entire team to design & build growth loops

  • Continuously analyze user behavior and create a framework for maintaining a stack ranked backlog of growth opportunities – big or small.

  • Work on what has the biggest impact even if it's not the most challenging from an engineering standpoint, e.g helping with a marketing campaign

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of experience as a growth, product, or full-stack engineer with exposure to data and experimentation

  • Strong skills in TypeScript and at least one backend language (Python preferred)

  • Deep experience with analytics pipelines and tooling (e.g. Segment, PostHog, Amplitude, dbt, or custom pipelines) and an opinionated stance on the best stack

  • Proven track record of running growth experiments that impacted activation, retention, or revenue

  • Strong product sense and taste. We value bolder and opinionated bets vs. iterations via A/B testing (although useful in funnel optimizations).

  • Comfortable working across frontend, backend, and data layers to ship experiments independently

  • Thrive in high-autonomy, high-velocity startup environments

How we hire

Our process is fully remote, and all communication happens via email, GitHub issues/PRs and/or video calls:

  1. Application Review → Short intro call with Birk (Founder)

  2. Assignment → Open source PR (Engineering) or case study

  3. Review & interviews (2-3 video calls) to:

    • Meet future team

    • Review and discuss the assignment & feedback + technical questions

    • Meet Birk (Founder)

  4. Reference Calls

  5. Offer 🎉

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
