About Us:

Blockworks is a financial media brand that delivers breaking news and premium insights about digital assets to millions of investors. Our content, newsletters, podcasts, and events provide investors with the critical analysis and information they need to make smarter decisions about digital assets.

Who You Are:

You're someone who can translate ideas, data, and brand moments into visuals that make people stop scrolling and start engaging. You have a keen eye for detail, a deep respect for good visual design, and the rare ability to both create and critique design work without ego. You know when to lead, when to collaborate, and when to push the boundaries.

You consider yourself to be equal parts creative and focused. You’re energized by a fast-moving environment, and you find serious amounts of joy in helping to bring structure and class to creative designs. You don’t just care about how things look—you care about what they mean, and how they’ll resonate with the audience. You’re comfortable working independently but thrive in a collaborative team where ideas bounce fast and feedback is honest.

What You’ll Do:

As our Senior Graphic Designer at Blockworks, you’ll help shape the visual identity of some of the most influential brands in crypto media. From podcasts and events to editorial design and marketing campaigns, you’ll bring your design skills and storytelling intuitions to exciting projects every day. You’ll partner closely with teams across Blockworks to craft beautiful, on-brand, and effective visual touchpoints.

Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like:

  • Design Visual Brand Identities: You'll work with other members of the creative and content teams to design and evolve the visual brand identities for new and existing products across the Blockworks ecosystem

  • Lead Marketing & Sales Design: You'll partner to lead the design and delivery of high-impact marketing materials that grow our audience and drive sales, including branding, pitch decks, sales presentations, and event signage.

  • Build Visual Stories: You'll collaborate with the creative and editorial teams to develop visual storytelling across all our distribution channels.

  • Craft Product Visual Assets: You'll partner to create compelling editorial art, templates, and style guides for articles, newsletters, reports, and breaking news.

  • Evolve with Our Audiences: You'll stay close to our audiences, working hard to understand what makes them tick and then using that insight to shape design choices.

What You’ve Done Before:

You’ve spent at least 3-5 years in design roles previously, either at agencies, brands, or studios. You consider yourself a design generalist — you’ve worn multiple hats and thrived in a fast-paced, feedback-rich environment. You’ve worked across mediums—print, digital, maybe even events—and have a killer portfolio that shows your range.

You’re fluent in the tools of the trade (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma) and know how to prep files for everything from Instagram carousels to large-scale event signage. You’re confident leading projects from concept to delivery, and you’ve got strong communication and project management skills to match your excellent taste.

It’d Be Great If You’ve Done This:

If you've dipped your toes into crypto—or are eager to learn the visual language of the space—you'll have a leg up on other candidates. Experience designing for niche or technical audiences is also a huge bonus. If you've worked on UI/UX projects or can animate your designs with motion graphics, tell us about that, too.

We also appreciate a strong point of view. If you've ever questioned a design brief because you saw a better story to tell, we want to talk to you. And if you've got excellent taste (you know who you are), this team will feel like home.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
