Who We Are

Perchwell is the modern real estate listings platform built for agents to search smarter, collaborate better, and close deals faster. We are building the future of residential real estateʼs critical listings infrastructure: a platform where  market  research and client  collaboration converge. Our modern architecture enables continuous innovation at a pace legacy systems cannot match, with AI-powered features and mobile-first capabilities designed for how agents actually work. As consumer expectations and technology evolve, Perchwell remains focused on our core vision:  empowering real estate professionals with the most intelligent, data-driven, and connected platform in the industry.

Backed by leading venture capital firms including Lux Capital and Founders Fund, along with strategic partnerships with some of the country's top Multiple Listing Services (MLSs), Perchwell represents the first major new platform to enter the listings technology market in decades. This unique combination of institutional investment and deep industry alignment provides both the resources and market validation needed to transform the multi-trillion dollar residential real estate industry.

What We're Looking For

We’re looking for a seasoned Software Engineer with a passion for the frontend — someone who gets excited about elegant interfaces, robust architectures, and complex client-side state management. This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of our frontend codebase. You’ll bring deep frontend engineering expertise and apply it to architect scalable, modular systems with best-in-class performance, testing, and maintainability.

You’ll be the go-to expert on frontend engineering best practices, also working closely with design and backend teams on API best practices. This role is ideal for someone who has worked in complex frontend environments and is excited to bring those lessons to a growing, ambitious team. If you love geeking out over frontend design, code structure, and performance, you’ll thrive here.

What You'll Work On:
  • Lead the design and development of our next-generation frontend architecture

  • Implement high-quality user interfaces that are fast, beautiful, and accessible

  • Build complex state management systems that are reliable and easy to understand

  • Define and enforce frontend code standards, testing practices, and validation frameworks

  • Translate designs from Figma into modular, production-ready code

  • Own the frontend development process end-to-end, from technical planning through QA and release

  • Develop new client-facing features and interfaces

  • Partner with designers and backend engineers to create seamless experiences

  • Drive improvements in performance, maintainability, scalability, and overall FE code health

  • Tackle complex architecture challenges, apply architectural standards and start using them on new projects

  • Help shape our engineering culture and frontend team as we grow

Required for this Role:
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on frontend development

  • Strong proficiency in Typescript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS, and modern JS frameworks–especially React–and experience working with CDNs and optimizing frontend delivery performance

  • Experience working on large, complex single-page applications

  • Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals: modularity, scalability, separation of concerns

  • Expertise with JavaScript build tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite) and how frontend code is packaged and delivered

  • Experience with modern testing frameworks like Playwright, Jest, Cypress, Mocha, or Chai

  • Proficiency with working in a full-stack capacity (comfortable contributing to the backend code; experience with Ruby, Python, or Node)

  • Ability to translate visual designs into well-structured frontend code

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Deep experience with application observability

In this role, you’ll work out of our New York City HQ in Soho Manhattan at least 3 days/week.

Bonus Points for Any of the Following:
  • Experience developing serverless React/Next.js applications

  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, CloudFront, ECR, S3, Route53

  • Expertise in backend frameworks (e.g., Rails, Flask/Python, Express/Node)

  • Passion for developer experience and tooling

  • Contributions to open source or frontend engineering communities

  • Design experience

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
