About the job

Goods & Services is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer (Mobile Focused) to help build and scale our mobile and backend platform. This role will work across a React + Capacitor mobile application and a modern Node.js microservices architecture, contributing to both customer-facing experiences and the systems that power them.

The ideal candidate has experience delivering production mobile applications for both iOS and Android, building scalable backend services with TypeScript, and working within distributed systems architectures.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain a cross-platform mobile application built with React and Capacitor.
  • Build and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Design and consume REST APIs for internal and external services.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement scalable microservice-based solutions.
  • Participate in system design discussions focused on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to asynchronous workflows and event-driven processes.
  • Support database schema design, migrations, and data modeling using Prisma ORM.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across both mobile and backend systems.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering productivity.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with TypeScript in production environments.
  • Experience building applications with React 18
  • Solid experience with Vite.
  • Experience with Capacitor 8.
  • Strong backend development experience using Node.js 22
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience working with relational databases and ORM frameworks.
  • Understanding of microservice architectures and service-to-service communication patterns.
  • Experience working with asynchronous processing and background jobs.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and modern development workflows.
  • Candidates must be fluent in VS Code and GitHub Copilot beyond basic autocomplete. Required skills include creating Copilot instruction files to provide repository context, building reusable prompt libraries for backend workflows, and leveraging Copilot Agent workflows to generate high-quality TypeScript, Prisma migrations, and service handlers.

Nice to have:

  • Experience developing and deploying mobile applications to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Experience with Prisma ORM.
  • Experience working within CQRS architectures.
  • Familiarity with Transactional Outbox patterns and event-driven systems.
  • Experience supporting distributed systems in production environments.
  • Experience with AWS Lambda or similar serverless technologies.
  • Experience developing custom Capacitor plugins.
  • Experience working with reporting, analytics, or projection-based data architectures.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
