The Motley Fool Money team is at the forefront of building scalable, robust applications to support our mission. We specialize in Django development, focusing on creating meaningful user experiences with Wagtail CMS and integrating complex APIs. Our team works collaboratively across disciplines to ensure that our digital solutions align with business goals and deliver exceptional user engagement.
What will you do in this role?
- Design and build scalable Django applications, ensuring clean architecture and reusable components.
- Lead the development of Wagtail-powered content platforms with custom page models and editor-focused enhancements.
- Integrate third-party APIs (REST, GraphQL, OAuth, etc.) across diverse systems for data synchronization.
- Collaborate with designers, content teams, and product owners to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Write clear, maintainable code with a focus on long-term maintainability.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to team processes, best practices, and documentation.
- Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions aimed at pragmatic, scalable outcomes.
- Stay current on Django, Wagtail, and Python ecosystem developments, bringing innovative ideas to the table.
- Leverage AI tools to scale business processes, ensuring agility and efficiency.
What do you need to apply?
- 5+ years of experience in software development.
- Proven experience developing Wagtail sites at a production scale.
- Strong experience with integrating third-party APIs.
- Solid understanding of backend patterns, Django ORM, query optimization, and testing.
- Experience with asynchronous task queues and modern deployment pipelines.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical teammates.
- A pragmatic and independent mindset with the discipline to move projects forward.
Nice to haves:
- Comfortable working in agile teams with async-friendly tools.
- Experience building tools for non-technical users.
- Experience with building AI tools to enhance workflows.
- Experience with LLM APIs (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to increase efficiencies in CMS.
- Experience building on Wagtail with React for customized CMS experiences.

Annual Pay Range
$130,000—$160,000 USD
