System1 is seeking a dynamic Senior Frontend Engineer to join our team and work on MapQuest products. MapQuest is a powerful web and mobile platform that provides point of interest information, search capabilities, and route creation for our diverse customer base.

In this role, you will design, build, operate, debug, optimize, and deploy highly-distributed, low-latency web-based systems. The Role You Will Have:
- Help architect and develop features of the MapQuest and RoadWarrior applications: Lead the transformation of our front end applications used by millions of people around the globe to Next.js and React Native, leveraging GraphQL, Tailwind, and other modern tools and frameworks.
- Design, implement and A/B test new features: Work with Product and Design to design, implement, launch, and collect analytics on new user facing features.
- Automate, optimize, fortify: Leverage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to automate tasks, reduce chance of human error, and improve developer experience. Analyze application logs and RUM data in New Relic, proactively seek opportunities to improve application metrics and performance. Develop unit and e2e tests to improve confidence in the application functionality.
- Own tasks end to end, taking projects through the full engineering lifecycle: From concept to deployment, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality features and improvements.
- Collaborate and problem solve with engineers and stakeholders: Work closely with a talented team to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy and lightweight planning processes: Enjoy the freedom to make impactful decisions while maintaining a focus on agile methodologies.
What You Will Bring:
- 5+ years of development experience: proven track record in building and maintaining complex systems that scale to thousands of users.
- 2+ years of hands-on production experience in developing and maintaining modern frontend applications using React, Next.js and React Native. Candidates with experience in Vue and Angular are encouraged to apply.
- 2+ years of experience working with GraphQL: schemas, resolvers, optimization
- 2+ years of experience working with web app infrastructure and monitoring: AWS CloudFront, New Relic, GitHub actions, Kubernetes
- Able to adhere to best practices and coding conventions: Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Experience working with GIT in a collaborative environment, creating pull requests, and performing code reviews.
- Excellent communication and time management skills: Ability to clearly articulate ideas and manage your time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Mapping APIs: Experience with mapping APIs (e.g., Google Maps API, OpenStreetMap) is a big plus
- Open source contributions are a plus

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $133,000 -$199,500 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
System1’s headquarters is located in Marina del Rey, CA with an additional office in Bellevue, WA.
