As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will develop user interfaces for a website, conversational AI, and browser extension, ensuring high quality and performance.
Product.ai is building the truth engine for shopping. Profitable. Bootstrapped. No outside investors. No board. 25 people outperforming companies 10x our size.
We're hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer.
Why This Role ExistsProduct.ai's consumer experience lives across three surfaces - a website, a conversational AI, and a browser extension. Each surface serves verified intelligence in a different form factor. The frontend is where truth meets the user. We need an engineer who can ship polished, fast, trust-building interfaces across all three - and who has the taste to know what "right" looks and feels like without being told.
The System You'll Need to Model
Cross-surface component architecture. Shared components that work across web, chat, and extension. Design tokens, component APIs, responsive patterns. The technical infrastructure that makes three surfaces feel like one product.
AI-interface integration. Streaming responses, confidence indicators, regeneration controls, progressive disclosure. The frontend patterns that make AI intelligence feel trustworthy and responsive.
Who You AreHow you think. You have taste - an intuitive sense of what "right" looks and feels like. You can defend component architecture decisions with behavioral evidence ("users scan left-to-right, so the action goes here") not just technical arguments. You think about the person using the interface, not just the code rendering it.
How you work. You ship features end-to-end - from design discussion through implementation through deployment. Claude Code or Cursor is part of your daily workflow. You verify what AI produces. You write code that other engineers can read and extend. You care about performance because slow is broken.
What you've probably built. Consumer-facing web applications with meaningful traffic. Component libraries or design systems. Streaming or real-time interfaces. We care about the live URL and the craft behind it, not which company logo was on the door.
Who this isn't for. This role is wrong if you prefer backend infrastructure to user-facing interfaces. It's wrong if "pixel-perfect from a Figma spec" is your primary workflow - there won't always be a spec. It's wrong if you treat Tailwind as optional or have strong anti-React convictions. You'll thrive here if you care about craft, ship fast, and like working at the intersection of design and engineering.
How We Evaluate
Base: $200,000 - $260,000. Top of market.
Equity: PIUs - $0 strike, Capital Gains, actual ownership from day one.
Profit sharing: Annual FCF participation.
Liquidity: Annual tender offer.
Benefits: 100% premium coverage. Unlimited PTO.
Based in Santa Monica. Hybrid, with flexibility. For the right builder, we're open to remote.

We need an engineer who can ship polished, fast, trust-building interfaces across all three - and who has the taste to know what "right" looks and feels like without being told.
The System You'll Need to Model
- A locked frontend stack. React 19, Next.js 16, Tailwind v4, shadcn/ui. Non-negotiable. If you have strong opinions about this stack, great - it's already decided, and you'll build within it.
- Three consumer surfaces with different interaction paradigms. A content-rich website. A streaming conversational AI. A browser extension that activates at checkout. Each has different rendering, state management, and performance constraints.
- AI-generated UI components. Parts of the interface are generated or adapted by AI at runtime. You'll work with probabilistic GUIs - components that render differently based on confidence levels, context, and user state.
- A design system that doesn't fully exist yet. The Founding Designer will define it. You'll build and extend it. Design-engineering collaboration is tight - no handoff, no Jira tickets, no waiting for specs.

How We Evaluate
- Written artifact. Live URLs to something you built. Or a component library you created. Or a blog post about frontend architecture. Show us what you've shipped.
- Video screen. How you think about frontend craft, performance, and user experience.
- Conversation with the founder. Architecture thinking, taste, and how you reason about tradeoffs between speed and quality.
- Paid work trial. 4 days working on a real Product.ai frontend problem. You'll ship code that goes to production.

With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
