About the Role

Who We Are:

Are you a passionate innovator looking to harness the power of technology to do more good? You’ve come to the right place. At Bonterra, our purpose is to power those who power social impact. To that end, we serve the people who make social good possible—the doers behind the scenes across nonprofits, public agencies, corporations, philanthropic organizations, and foundations.

As the second-largest and fastest-growing social good software company in the world, Bonterra brings together leading solutions from CyberGrants, EveryAction, Network for Good, Social Solutions, and their respective entities. By bringing our intuitive technology and expertise together, Bonterra will enable unprecedented connectivity between social good organizations and their community of supporters and constituents. This will reshape philanthropic giving, empower digital transformation, and bring the social good sector the technology it needs to accelerate lasting social change.

What You’ll Do:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll take the lead in building high-quality front-end experiences that power our strategic philanthropy and life sciences platform. While much of your focus will be on React, Next.js, and modern front-end development, you’ll also collaborate across legacy and full-stack systems where needed to ensure seamless user experiences. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong UI development skills with pragmatic engineering judgment and who’s comfortable navigating both new and existing codebases to drive impact.

  • Design and build high-quality front-end experiences: Use technologies like JavaScript, React, Next.js, and CSS to deliver intuitive, performant interfaces that make complex workflows feel simple.

  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions: Help shape best practices around front-end engineering, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.

  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Partner with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and other developers to build intuitive features that meet user needs and align with our mission.

  • Use AI as a Force Multiplier: Accelerate development with tools like Cursor while relying on solid engineering fundamentals to efficiently produce high-quality, maintainable code. We see AI as an assistant—not a substitute—for thoughtful, experienced engineers.

  • Raise the Bar on How We Work: Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical discussions while modeling best practices. Help pioneer and refine evolving team processes, and play a key role in shaping how we work as our tools and technologies advance.

  • Contribute to Company Culture: Embody our values by approaching your work with empathy, curiosity, and accountability. We’re looking for teammates who elevate others, embrace inclusive collaboration, and aren’t afraid to take smart risks in pursuit of bold, mission-driven outcomes.

Who You Are:

You’re a front-end-focused senior engineer who cares deeply about crafting intuitive, performant user experiences. You bring deep experience with React and CSS, and you know how to navigate complex systems, whether modern, legacy, or somewhere in between. You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty in unfamiliar code or to question assumptions when something feels off. You balance strong technical instincts with humility and a team-first mindset.

You’re excited by the possibilities of AI-assisted development and know how to use these tools to boost productivity, not bypass thoughtful engineering. You contribute actively to team discussions, enjoy giving and receiving feedback, and look for ways to make both the product and the team better every day.

What You Bring:

  • Advanced proficiency in React, Next.js, CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.

  • A strong eye for UI quality, including accessibility, performance, and maintainability.

  • Comfort navigating backend or full-stack systems to unblock your work or support integration.

  • Hands-on experience or strong interest in using AI-enhanced development tools like Cursor, and openness to experimenting with new workflows in an AI-first engineering environment.

  • A collaborative, inclusive mindset with a commitment to helping others grow through code reviews and shared problem-solving.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

What You Can Expect:

You can expect growth and innovation and to have fun along the way. You will not only be rewarded for your personal achievements, but you will also have the opportunity to be part of an organization that lives by its motto every day: Powering those who power social impact!

Our team is made up of industry experts and advocates who are 100% committed to supporting the doers of social good. We are currently undergoing an effort to create the vision and values that embody our collective organization and embrace the individuals who make up our community.

At Bonterra, we’re building AI-powered tools to solve real human challenges—and we want teammates who share that enthusiasm. We value people who will champion AI and bring diverse perspectives from different industries, backgrounds, and cultures. Together, we create AI that breaks down barriers, empowers communities, and delivers better outcomes.

At this time, we are unable to consider candidates who require current or future sponsorship for employment authorization.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
