About Health Note

Health Note is building AI-powered digital assistants that act like trusted members of the care team. Instead of rigid, disconnected software modules, our assistants gain skills over time — from handling simple reschedules to managing complex intake, referrals, medication refills, and patient access workflows. Patients experience a natural, empathetic interaction while providers gain a system that is reliable, transparent, and continually improving. Our goal is to deliver a concierge experience for every patient and a scalable path to automation for every clinic.

About the Role

We're looking for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of customers, operations, product, and technology.

As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll own the technical path from customer workflow requirements to live Access Agent deployments.  That includes configuration, workflow design, prompt and rule changes, production troubleshooting, customer-facing technical work, and identifying patterns that should become repeatable product capabilities.

You’ll work directly with customers and internal teams to translate patient access workflows, scheduling rules, and routing logic into production-ready configuration, workflow logic, prompts, rules, and integrations.

This role sits close to customers, but it is deeply technical. You'll be writing code, configuring AI-driven workflows, troubleshooting production issues, supporting go-lives, and helping customers adopt new capabilities. Success means getting valuable functionality into customers’ hands quickly while creating repeatable systems that make future deployments faster, cleaner, and more reliable.

Responsibilities
  • Own the technical implementation of Access Agent deployments, from customer workflow discovery through configuration, testing, and go-live support.

  • Translate patient access workflows, scheduling rules, and routing logic into production-ready workflow logic, prompts, rules, integrations, and configuration.

  • Write code and build tooling that make customer deployments faster, more reliable, and more repeatable.

  • Investigate production issues tied to customer deployments, identify root causes, and implement or coordinate fixes.

  • Partner with Customer Success, Operations, Implementation, Product, and Engineering to make pragmatic technical decisions.

  • Identify recurring customer needs and turn them into reusable patterns, tools, documentation, or product recommendations.

Qualifications
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience building and maintaining production systems.

  • Strong full-stack development experience, ideally with Typescript, React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.

  • Strong technical judgment about when to solve through configuration, custom code, product changes, process changes, or escalation.

  • Experience working directly with customers, implementations, solutions engineering, technical consulting, or forward deployment teams.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and independently drive work to completion.

  • Product-minded approach that balances customer needs, speed, maintainability, and long-term scalability.

  • Demonstrated ownership of outcomes rather than individual tasks.

Nice to Haves
  • Experience working with LLMs, AI workflows, prompt engineering, or agentic systems.

  • Healthcare technology, interoperability, EHR, or healthcare operations experience.

  • Experience supporting customer implementations in startup environments.

  • Familiarity with observability, debugging, and production support practices.

  • Experience building internal tools, workflow systems, or configuration platforms.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you will:

  • Independently own customer configuration and implementation workstreams.

  • Turn repeated customer-specific needs into reusable patterns, tools, or product recommendations that reduce future implementation effort.

  • Create or improve implementation playbooks and operational processes.

  • Become a trusted technical partner for Implementation and Operations teams.

  • Help customers adopt new capabilities more quickly and successfully.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
