It’s what led MNTN to being named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in 2023. You can learn more about us and everything we do by visiting https://mountain.com/.

So if wanting to do more, own more, and make a bigger impact comes naturally to you, then you may be the person we're looking for to join us in our next stage of growth.

We’re looking for a Cloud FinOps Engineer to help us better understand, manage, and optimize our cloud spend as we scale. This is a critical role that blends financial expertise, deep knowledge of AWS/GCP, and strong data analysis skills to drive cost efficiency across our infrastructure. You’ll partner closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Finance to forecast spend, surface insights, and make sure our infrastructure decisions are as smart financially as they are technically.

What You’ll Do

  • Own forecasting, analysis, and reporting of our cloud spend across AWS and/or GCP
  • Build models and dashboards to track cost trends, usage spikes, and savings opportunities
  • Work with engineers to optimize workloads, right-size resources, and reduce waste without sacrificing performance
  • Develop and maintain tagging strategies to improve cost allocation and reporting granularity
  • Analyze cost anomalies and work with relevant teams to address them proactively
  • Serve as a bridge between engineering and finance—helping both sides make informed, cost-aware decisions
  • Contribute to internal tooling that surfaces cloud cost insights in real time
  • Leverage infrastructure knowledge (Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD) to spot inefficiencies and recommend improvements

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in a role blending cloud infrastructure and financial analysis (e.g., FinOps, DevOps with cost focus, cloud economics)
  • Deep understanding of AWS or GCP billing and usage patterns
  • Strong SQL skills and experience analyzing large-scale datasets
  • Experience with cost visibility or FinOps tools (e.g., CloudHealth, CloudZero, GCP Billing Export, AWS Cost Explorer)
  • Familiarity with cloud-native services, containers, and modern infrastructure (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes)
  • Ability to communicate technical + financial topics clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Bonus Points

  • Experience in performance marketing, SaaS, or ad tech environments
  • Certifications in AWS, GCP, or FinOps
  • Experience working cross-functionally with FP&A, Finance, or BizOps teams
  • Background in cost modeling or unit economics

MNTN Perks:

  • 100% remote within the US
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Annual vacation allowance for travel related expenses
  • Three-day weekend every month of the year
  • Competitive compensation
  • 100% healthcare coverage
  • 401k plan
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for dependent, medical, and dental care
  • Access to coaching, therapy, and professional development

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
