  • Create proposals and presentations that clearly communicate solutions to customer challenges.

  • Continuously build technical knowledge in customer applications through self-directed learning (e.g., microscopy, drug discovery, metrology).

General Tasks

  • Maintain organization and professionalism using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) and manage and maintain CRM (Salesforce).

  • Train and mentor team members in sales and technical areas, as directed by the Sales Director.

  • Participate in tradeshows, sales meetings, and customer events to represent Novanta.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Proven experience implementing motion control solutions in OEM applications; ideally in life-science, semiconductor or med-tech industries.

  • Strong technical background with expertise in motion control and automation technologies (e.g., actuators, motors, linear bearings, ballscrews).

  • Skilled in creating and delivering technical and commercial presentations and proposals to various audience sizes.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage both technical teams and executive-level stakeholders.

  • Strategic and creative thinker who performs well under pressure.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when needed.

  • Comfortable navigating professional relationships across all seniority levels, both internally and with customers.

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for customer visits, trade shows, and team meetings.

  • Must be able to travel domestically and occasionally internationally as needed.

  • Ability to coordinate travel logistics independently and represent the company professionally on-site.

  • Flexibility to adjust travel plans based on customer or project needs

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., demo equipment or tools).

  • Comfortable working in lab, manufacturing, or customer site environments.

  • Manual dexterity required for handling small components or tools during system setup or troubleshooting.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base pay for this position is $ 117,216 up to $ 161,172 per year depending on the geographic market.
  • This position provides an opportunity for competitive quarterly sales compensation based on an achievement to plan.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
