Job Description
The BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems' (SMS) Facilities & Plant Operations teams support the sector's 35 properties representing over 2.2 million SF of real estate in Colorado. This established team of over 100 Facilities professionals is committed to maintenance, service, support, continuous improvement, and creating facilities which enable world class engineers and technicians to create a better, safer, more informed and productive world.
The Facilities Engineering team provides facilities designs and engineering guidance across BAE Systems SMS campuses in Westminster, Broomfield, and Boulder. We are seeking a candidate to be a civil/structural engineering technical expert for the Facilities organization. In this role, the successful candidate will perform engineering duties in planning, designing, overseeing construction, and assisting with operations of buildings and facilities.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You'll Do:
  • Take lead engineering role on projects, with responsibilities for coordinating multiple disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, and electrical. Be the technical expert and liaison on construction projects where assigned as lead.
  • Plan, budget and manage design and study efforts.
  • Manage outside design resources needed to execute projects and studies.
  • Review new designs for quality, effectiveness and adherence to standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to consulting engineers or in-house managers regarding design, construction, or program modifications or structural repairs.
  • Develop and maintain structural standards for design and construction.
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify, monitor and repair structural issues with buildings.
  • Prepare statements of work to solicit design or construction proposals.
  • Perform structural analysis of existing building components.
  • Monitor and assess impact of regulatory changes related to building and systems design.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced personnel.
  • Complete design tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field plus a minimum of 4 years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., master's degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Detailed knowledge of building structures and components including steel, cast-in-place concrete, precast and tilt-up concrete, masonry, and light gauge systems.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of facility design (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural).
  • Working knowledge of building codes.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer software such as: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proven history of using critical thinking skills to improve processes/operations and increase efficiency.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientation demonstrated through an ability to manage work schedule, manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proven history of creating collaborative relationships across the company and all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven history of implementation of safe workplace practices.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering highly desired.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) is highly desired.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment highly desired.
  • Experience with construction is desired
  • Experience with design of secured spaces is a plus.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $97008 - $164914
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
