Why Socure?

Socure is building the identity trust infrastructure for the digital economy — verifying 100% of good identities in real time and stopping fraud before it starts. The mission is big, the problems are complex, and the impact is felt by businesses, governments, and millions of people every day.

We hire people who want that level of responsibility. People who move fast, think critically, act like owners, and care deeply about solving customer problems with precision. If you want predictability or narrow scope, this won’t be your place. If you want to help build the future of identity with a team that holds a high bar for itself — keep reading.

About the Role

Socure’s Document Verification (DocV) backend platform sits at the core of our identity trust infrastructure, powering real-time document analysis, machine learning inference, and high-confidence decisioning at massive scale. We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the DocV Backend Engineering team and shape the systems that millions of identity decisions rely on every day.

This role is ideal for a technically strong, execution-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and people leadership—someone who can raise the bar on performance, reliability, and security while partnering closely with Product, Data Science, Infrastructure, and Security to turn complex problems into production-grade solutions.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and develop a backend engineering team (6–8 engineers), fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and technical excellence.

  • Own execution of backend initiatives aligned with the DocV product roadmap and business objectives.

  • Drive architectural decisions for distributed systems, APIs, and data pipelines supporting document ingestion, ML inference, and real-time decisioning.

  • Partner with Data Science teams to productionize computer vision and machine learning models in scalable, observable production environments.

  • Ensure backend systems meet strict requirements for latency, throughput, availability, and fault tolerance.

  • Establish and uphold best practices for code quality, testing, observability, security, and privacy compliance.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Frontend, Mobile, Infrastructure, Security, and Product teams to deliver end-to-end features.

  • Anticipate scaling, reliability, and operational challenges and proactively drive solutions that reduce risk and execution friction.

What You Bring
  • 8+ years of backend software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.

  • Proven experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems.

  • Strong expertise with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), APIs, and microservices.

  • Experience supporting ML-driven services in production.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
