About Moon

Moon is an ambitious, independent vertical SaaS company incubated by Home Organizers, a market leader with decades of proven success in home organization through its subsidiaries, including Closet World, Closets by Design, and Brio Water Technology. Born inside one of the industry's largest operators — 6,000+ employees, hundreds of thousands of new customers served annually — Moon is built on a rare advantage: we build for the home improvement industry from within it.

Our mission is to reinvent the home improvement experience end to end. From AI-driven marketing and in-home 3D design to sales, service, and operations, Moon unifies the entire customer and business journey on a single platform — supercharged by Luna, our proprietary AI engine. Where most operators stitch together disconnected tools that don't understand the homeowner, we're building the unified operating system the industry has never had. We're a rapidly growing team of committed builders, driven to reimagine how this industry sells, designs, and delivers — and to power the next generation of operators, from single-location dealers to national franchise networks.

Role Overview

You will lead the team that builds Moon's core platform: auth and identity, multi-entity tenancy, entitlements, payments and financing APIs, cross-platform communication services, and the common shared services every module team consumes. Core Platform also owns engineering standards across the application: your team enforces them through code review and ensures proper use of the design system via Storybook.

About the role

You will join leading a small, senior team, reporting to the VP of Engineering and partnering daily with the Principal Engineer on the contracts, reliability, and data architecture that let small teams ship continuously without colliding.

What you'll do

Lead delivery of core services: identity, tenancy, entitlements, payments and financing APIs, and messaging buses.

Implement and operate the common shared services all modules build on: payments, email, SMS, voice and communication services, client database - built once, consumed everywhere.

Enforce engineering standards via code reviews across the application, including proper use of the design system via Storybook.

Own reliability on the critical path: availability, recovery, and database architecture and performance.

Run contract-first discipline with consuming teams: versioned APIs, clean deprecation, fast and rigorous contract reviews.

Hire and develop a senior team; player-coach - you still read code.

Qualifications

10+ years of engineering including managing platform or infrastructure teams.

Deep distributed systems, API design, and database experience; payments or fintech experience a strong plus.

Has run platform-as-product: internal customers, SLAs, versioned contracts.

Sets a high bar for talent and for standards; fast pace with discipline.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
