At Visual Concepts, we believe great games are made by diverse and empowered teams with a shared passion for play. As one of the world’s top game development studios, we have shipped over 100 multi-sku titles to critical acclaim and commercial success. Our teams are independent and entrepreneurial. Our studios in Novato, Irvine, Budapest, Shanghai, Austin, Boise, Seoul, and Parksville, Canada are committed to artistry and technical innovation, offering top candidates the opportunity to learn and grow with some of the smartest and most creative minds in the industry.

What We Need:

Our Novato studio is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our gamemode team, to work on modes such as MyCAREER, The W, MyNBA, and MyWNBA. We’re looking for an engineer who balances a high bar for code quality with a passion for the hoop culture. You will be responsible for architecting the deep logic, complex progression systems, and business rules that power the most authentic sports simulation on the market.

What You Will Do:
  • Join a team of passionate engineers and producers creating the business logic and progression systems that drive NBA 2K’s gamemodes
  • Create, improve, and work with tools that make the development process easier and more fun
  • Represent the player at all times, delivering satisfying, polished, and extensible game features
  • Participate in the design process every step of the way, as you work with your colleagues to make every feature your own, and get your voice heard
  • Work in a team that values quality over quantity, with strict schedules to finalize features and allow time for testing and polishing
  • Produce code that is clean, efficient, well-documented, and conforms to our coding standards
Who Will Be A Great Fit:
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience (Senior level), preferably in C++, and preferably with shipped console or PC titles
  • Proficiency in C# (.NET, WPF) to work on creating new tools and updating our existing toolset with fresh ideas and long-desired improvements
  • An eye for thorough technical design without overengineering, balancing elegance vs depth, and thorough debugging skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
  • A self-motivated approach to debugging and architectural challenges
  • A love for video games and a drive to create the deepest persistent gameplay experiences in the industry

What We’re Hoping to Achieve:
  • Increased Feature Depth: Leveraging senior-level expertise to build more complex, "brainy" systems for MyCAREER and Franchise modes.
  • Code Sustainability: Improving the long-term maintainability of our codebase through clean, documented, and extensible backend architecture.
  • Cross-Discipline Synergy: Closing the gap between design intent and technical execution by having an engineer who can speak "basketball" and "code" simultaneously.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
