Job Description:

Microchip is currently seeking an Applications Engineer to join our high reliability product team. The individual we seek will provide technical expertise through sales presentations, product demonstrations, customer support, installation and maintenance of company products, and product verification activities. The AE assists the sales staff in assessing potential applications of company products to meet customer needs and prepares detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions. This valuable team member will be responsible for building application models based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and product demonstrations for our clients. Other job duties include maintaining and reporting of application cases and FAQ documents, authoring and publishing application notes, maintaining product webpages, interfacing with our software and firmware development teams to provide application solutions that interface with our FPGA and MCU products and providing product capability assessment and validation. The AE ensures that the product application/solution functions according to specifications and provides follow-up support to company sales staff and customer personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSEE; or equivalent plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a semiconductor engineering environment with analog mixed circuit design or application engineering in analog mixed signal components and power management.
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role dealing directly with customers and/or field sales personnel
  • Knowledge and experience in debugging electrical systems at component, board, and system level.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multi-meter, etc.)
  • Prior experience and skill performing simulation, PCB layout and schematic capture (knowledge of ORCAD, Altium Designer, Cadence or equivalent software); recognition of schematics and layout
  • Knowledge and understanding of MIL-PRF specifications, DLA Classifications and Qualified Manufacturers Listings a plus
  • Familiarity with radiation testing and customer radiation tolerance requirements a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze IC and system integration issues and prescribe and implement timely solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in California, is $68,640 - $163,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
