As a Senior Engineer on the Developer Productivity team, you'll lead the charge in establishing robust performance metrics, strategies and frameworks for the Data-In organization. You'll Increase developer velocity by streamlining deployment pathways with new tooling. Empowering developers to achieve greater efficiency, resulting in faster, high-quality production releases.
You’ll be enabled to seek clarity with technical complexities and be able to demonstrate smart ways to automate. You’ll be able to make data-driven decisions that will release value early to solve Xero customers' problems more effectively.
You’ll help maintain the standard for engineering excellence at Xero and support your team members in building products together. You’ll demonstrate leadership on best practices, and be a role model and mentor for other team members. You’ll contribute to our cross functional environment by working towards the same objectives, using modern principles and practices.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Performance: Lead the development and implementation of performance engineering strategies, including system performance measurement, tracking, and reporting for key systems.
- Tooling: Own the creation of innovative developer tooling and champion automation of delivery processes to proactively address product development challenges and streamline the development lifecycle.
- Problem-Solve: Tackle complex technical challenges, debug across the entire Xero technology stack, ensure system stability and prevent production issues by proactively managing and mitigating risks, identifying failure patterns, and contributing to incident responses and post-mortems.
- Engineering Standards and Practices: Champion engineering standards and best practices, promoting modern software and delivery methodologies. Advocate for best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing, driving continuous improvement within the team.
- Build relationships: Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and team members to build trust, drive coordination, and improve quality.
- Grow People & Teams: Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and engineering excellence.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of highly scalable production systems, including building high-quality automation frameworks.
- High level of experience in a range of languages and tools.
- Proficiency in C#, .NET, Javascript, Typescript, React, Node, Docker, Kubernetes, New Relic and AWS.
- Understand the architecture and implementation of distributed systems. Expertise in performance tuning, including designing effective tests, interpreting results, diagnosing and resolving performance issues.
- Proficient in monitoring and observability tooling, load balancing concepts and autoscalling.
- SQL knowledge to analyze database performance bottlenecks and create robust test data.
- Extensive experience with CI/CD and integrating standardized testing frameworks to empower product teams to effectively develop and execute tests.
