Who is Flock?

Flock Safety is the leading safety technology platform, helping communities thrive by taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and security. Our hardware and software suite connects cities, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods in a nationwide public-private safety network. Trusted by over 5,000 communities, 4,500 law enforcement agencies, and 1,000 businesses, Flock delivers real-time intelligence while prioritizing privacy and responsible innovation.

We’re a high-performance, low-ego team driven by urgency, collaboration, and bold thinking. Working at Flock means tackling big challenges, moving fast, and continuously improving. It’s intense but deeply rewarding for those who want to make an impact.

With nearly $700M in venture funding and a $7.5B valuation, we’re scaling intentionally and seeking top talent to help build the impossible. If you value teamwork, ownership, and solving tough problems, Flock could be the place for you.

The Opportunity

Be the driving force behind the automated testing landscape for innovative embedded systems that directly combat crime and make communities safer. At Flock, we're looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Test Engineer to design, implement, and manage critical infrastructure that guarantees our devices are reliable, performant, and scalable. You'll validate everything from low-level firmware to complex physical interactions. If you're passionate about moving fast, solving tough challenges, and ensuring top-tier quality in a dynamic environment where you can bridge the gap between prototype and production, this is your opportunity to play a key role in our Device Software Quality efforts. You will design, implement, and manage the infrastructure that validates the software on our embedded products, from bare-metal firmware to interactions with the physical world. This role will be a professional generalist who is able to walk the line between scrappy prototype and production polish.

The Skillset

We are looking for people who:

  • Have a Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in QA and test automation.

  • Have expertise developing and maintaining test automation for embedded systems.

  • Have experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.

  • Are comfortable interacting with code in multiple languages to create, validate, and profile embedded devices.

  • Are comfortable working cross-functionally across multiple projects.

  • Have experience commercializing electronics in the consumer or industrial IoT space.

  • Are comfortable reading schematics and PCB layouts to inform test strategies and aid in debugging and have hands-on embedded electronics prototyping experience.

  • Have experience with test case management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr) and bug tracking systems (e.g., Jira).

  • Have a healthy skepticism of and trust-but-verify relationship with abstraction layers.

  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Have humility, curiosity, and a passion for sharing knowledge.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable:

  • Acting as a key contributor between embedded hardware, software, and program management.

  • With bare metal and RTOS code on MCUs.

  • Translating product goals into technical requirements.

  • Prototyping and triaging issues on embedded Android and MCU systems.

  • Interacting with a variety of programming and scripting languages (C, Python, SQL, Kotlin, Matlab, Java, Bash).

  • With CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) for automated testing of physical hardware.

Please note: this position will require quarterly travel to our Atlanta HQ lab or other test lab locations in the continental US.

Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
