Stantec is seeking a high qualified Senior Electrical Engineer experienced in a variety of projects in buildings, an electrical professional ready to lead discipline delivery, strengthen client relationships, mentor teams, and deliver technically excellent projects that improve experiences for building occupants.
As a senior electrical engineering professional, you will serve as a trusted technical resource within Stantec’s Buildings Engineers practice. You will lead and organize electrical project work, coordinate multidisciplinary deliverables, support clients through regulatory requirements, and contribute to Stantec’s Buildings Engineering presence in Southern California. You will balance hands-on project delivery with client support, mentorship, and technical stewardship, helping teams execute consistently using established practice standards and delivery methods.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Contribute technical input to business development efforts and pursuits aligned with studio, sector, and firm strategy.
- Support client-facing teams by helping clients navigate technical, regulatory, and operational challenges.
- Partner with Principals and marketing teams on proposals, interviews, and client pursuits, contributing technical insight and market knowledge.
- Participate in industry events, conferences, presentations, and professional organizations as appropriate.
- Support client development and project opportunities in coordination with Regional and Business Center leadership.
- Help nurture existing client relationships and identify future work through strong communication and market awareness.
- Lead electrical engineering delivery for assigned projects—from planning through construction—with accountability for task quality, schedule, budget input, and client satisfaction.
- Lead electrical design for commercial building facilities, including power, lighting, and fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with the California Electrical Code, Building Energy Efficiency Standards, CALGreen, and applicable building codes.
- Develop and coordinate electrical models and drawings using Revit and BIM workflows for building projects.
- Demonstrate practical Revit modeling proficiency through work samples, prior project experience, or skills verification during hiring and onboarding.
- Assist in defining project scope, goals, and deliverables with owners, developers, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and internal teams.
- Develop task-level work plans, resource needs, and budgets; track performance and provide project managers with scope, schedule, change, and financial input.
- Coordinate with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and stakeholders to develop practical, integrated technical solutions.
- Address sector-specific regulations, utility requirements, quality standards, and established best practices throughout design delivery.
- Review calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and coordinated deliverables for technical quality and constructability.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies to support design integration, field resolution, and project objectives.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met.
- Prepare and oversee detailed design documents, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Apply sound electrical engineering judgment to resolve technical issues and guide building systems design.
- Plan production resources and workflow required to deliver coordinated electrical drawings, documentation, and calculations.
- Delegate work effectively to production support staff and review work products for completeness and quality.
- Guide engineers and designers through task direction, work review, feedback, and a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Support workload planning, resource coordination, staffing discussions, retention efforts, and recruiting or interviewing activities as requested.
- Improve practice standards, delivery methods, workflows, and technical processes to strengthen consistency, quality, and project outcomes.
- Advance technical excellence by applying lessons learned and sharing knowledge across project teams.
- Support the junior engineer and assist with inquiries
- Stay current with evolving electrical engineering regulations, technologies, and best practices—and help integrate them into Stantec’s standards and processes.
- Continue technical learning and share relevant knowledge with developing staff and project teams.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Electrical Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical resources within Stantec.
- Promote innovative, sustainable, and resilient design solutions that enhance occupant, staff, and facility outcomes.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- 6+ years of electrical engineering design experience for healthcare, civic, transit, higher education, commercial, and/or industrial facilities, with a record of successful project delivery.
- Experience leading electrical design work for straightforward to moderately complex building projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience mentoring junior staff, supporting workload planning, and contributing to technical development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues with clients, contractors, authorities, and internal teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive mindset with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
- Passion for enhancing building design delivery, creating sustainable environments, and driving innovative engineering solutions.
- Working knowledge of project delivery fundamentals, including task-level scope, schedule, budget tracking, change awareness, and timely input to project managers.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building design codes and standards in Southern California, including California building codes, California Electrical Code, CALGreen, Building Energy Efficiency Standards, UL, NFPA, and IEEE requirements.
- Strong technical understanding and working knowledge of electrical building systems and site infrastructure.
- Ability to develop concepts and ideas before evolving them into coordinated project deliverables.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 6+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated skills.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Experience with Lean/IPD, Design‑Build, or Design‑Assist delivery methods is a plus.
- Familiarity with Healthcare, HCAI, Higher Education, DSA, and/or similar sector clients is highly valued.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
