- Select and size electrical components (motors, breakers, contactors, relays, VFDs, controllers) to ensure safe, reliable system operation and provide complete BOMs to Purchasing.
- Develop, program, and maintain PLC-based control strategies, primarily in Carel and Automation Direct platforms, with fluency in additional PLC environments as needed.
- Lead R&D and new product development initiatives focused on advancing PLC/HMI and electrical design systems for greater automation, quality, and scalability.
- Create and update production standards, procedures, and documentation that support repeatable, high-quality builds and service activities.
- Drive automation of design deliverables, including automated electrical drawings, P&IDs, and BOM generation from engineering data outputs.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for controls and electrical issues, both internally on the shop floor and remotely for field service and customers.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, service) to integrate controls solutions seamlessly into overall system designs.
- Champion continuous improvement by identifying design and process gaps, proposing solutions, and executing action plans to enhance performance and reliability.
- Support a fast-paced project environment by managing multiple priorities, meeting tight deadlines, and stepping into technical support calls on short notice when needed.
What will make you successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of experience in an electrical or controls engineering role, ideally in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial machinery.
- Advanced proficiency creating electrical drawings and schematics in AutoCAD (or similar), with a solid grasp of NEC and UL requirements and how to apply them in real-world designs.
- Proven ability to design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems from the ground up, including at least 5 years of hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong experience selecting and sizing electrical components (motors, VFDs, breakers, contactors, relays, controllers) and understanding how they interact within complex systems.
- Demonstrated success troubleshooting both electrical and controls issues in the field or on the floor, with a calm, methodical, and customer-focused approach.
- Working knowledge of HVAC or refrigeration principles and how controls strategies impact system performance, reliability, and safety.
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, with the ability to create clear procedures, standards, and support materials for production and service teams.
- Highly self-motivated and independent, able to take full ownership of projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable explaining technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders (production, service, and customers).
- A continuous-improvement mindset and strong work ethic, thriving in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and occasional peak workloads.
