About the Role
Eleven Media is looking for an experienced Senior Editor to lead our US News & Politics coverage. This is a leadership role focused on breaking news, analysis, commentary, and in-depth reporting. This is not traditional SEO content writing.
The role includes leading daily editorial coverage, mentoring the team, planning around major news events, maintaining high editorial standards, and driving audience performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the editorial coverage of US politics, national news, global news, elections, and major current affairs.
  • Develop daily and long-term coverage plans, ensuring the team is prepared for upcoming news cycles, political events, and major stories.
  • Track breaking news, identify important developments, and ensure timely, comprehensive coverage across the team.
  • Guide, train, mentor, and develop writers and sub-editors through regular feedback and coaching.
  • Assign stories, identify strong editorial angles, and help shape reporting, analysis, explainers, and commentary.
  • Review, edit, and occasionally write stories while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
  • Ensure accuracy, fairness, sourcing, consistency, and overall editorial hygiene across all published content.
  • Monitor audience performance, identify trends, review analytics, and use insights to improve editorial strategy and coverage.
  • Help recruit, interview, onboard, and develop editorial talent.
  • Maintain clear communication across the editorial team and ensure priorities are aligned throughout the news cycle.
  • Take ownership of the overall quality, consistency, and performance of the US News & Politics editorial team.
  • Remain flexible during breaking news, elections, major political events, and other high-impact news situations.

What You Will Need
  • Significant professional experience editing and leading coverage of US politics, government, elections, public policy, or national news.
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring, or leading editorial teams in a newsroom or digital publishing environment.
  • A strong understanding of the US political system, institutions, elections, public policy, and the broader news landscape.
  • Outstanding editorial judgment and the ability to identify stories and angles that matter to audiences.
  • Excellent editing, research, reporting, fact-checking, and analytical skills.
  • The ability to distinguish verified facts, reported claims, analysis, and opinion, while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Experience planning editorial coverage around breaking news, major events, and long-term news cycles.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience using analytics and audience insights to improve editorial performance and coverage strategy.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to editorial accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and a willingness to take responsibility for team performance.
