Skylight is a technology startup building the OS of the family. We make Skylight Calendar, the smart calendar loved by millions of families (plus Wired and the Wirecutter). Our latest product is Calendar 2, which just launched to rave reviews.

Our mission is to connect loved ones by creating the world’s simplest products and services that improve family life. Our founders are former venture capitalists and serial entrepreneurs who have scaled this business to $300M+ in annual revenue while being completely bootstrapped and profitable. We get to grow a happy, healthy company focused on making products our customers love without investors breathing down our necks.

Smart, hardworking people who care about making actually meaningful products love working here. People like you. We’re busy inventing new ways to simplify family life and help parents raise great kids – and we need your help! Come invent something new with us.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior E-commerce Engineer to help us build and run the site where customers discover and buy Skylight products. You'll work primarily in TypeScript on a Hydrogen application (server-rendered React and React Router v7), owning features from the browser all the way through the server. You should bring deep experience shipping production React applications, a strong instinct for performance and reliability, and the judgment to know when a problem calls for new architecture and when a simpler fix will do.

What You'll Do
  • Build and ship new features for our customer-facing e-commerce site using Typescript / Hydrogen (React and React Router v7)
  • Own server-rendered pages end to end, from routes, loaders, and actions to the components customers see
  • Integrate with commerce, content, and analytics APIs, and debug issues across the full request lifecycle
  • Improve site speed and reliability so every visit is fast and every checkout works
  • Decide where to invest in architecture and where to ship a simpler solution
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Design, Product, and Operations on launches, campaigns, and experiments
  • Write maintainable, high-quality code with strong test coverage
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews and design discussions

Requirements
  • Strong experience building and operating production React and TypeScript applications with server-side rendering
  • Solid hands-on experience with React Router v7, including routes, loaders, actions, and server-rendered application patterns
  • Full-stack experience: comfortable in both the browser and the server, integrating APIs, and debugging across the request lifecycle
  • A track record of improving performance and reliability for a customer-facing site
  • Good judgment about when to invest in architecture and when to deliver a simpler solution
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills across engineering and non-engineering teams
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with Shopify Plus, the Storefront API, or Hydrogen
  • Experience with CMS integrations
  • Familiarity with feature flags and A/B testing
  • Experience with e-commerce analytics

Benefits

Our competitive compensation package includes:

  • Competitive Salary + Equity Package
  • 401K matching
  • Wellness, learning, and home-office budgets
  • Health, Dental & Vision Medical Plans
  • Tremendous autonomy to set the direction of your work
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Company holidays on the first Friday of every month (Except November, December. & January)

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $160K-200K per year. This range reflects the compensation Skylight reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, which may include experience, qualifications, skills, education, geographic location, and internal equity. Skylight also offers benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and paid time off.

Skylight is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
