Company Overview
About Virtium is a Rancho Santa Margarita, California–based designer and manufacturer of high-reliability industrial embedded solutions for customers whose systems must operate consistently in demanding, long-life environments. For more than 25 years, Virtium has supported global OEMs with industrial-grade SSDs, DRAM memory modules, compute and system-on-module solutions, AI accelerator modules, connectivity modules, and supporting software. Our solutions are used in applications across networking and telecommunications, industrial automation, aerospace and defense, medical, transportation, rugged computing, Industrial IoT, and other mission-critical embedded markets where reliability, lifecycle stability, qualification, and supply continuity matter.

About the Role
Virtium is seeking a strategic, hands-on Senior Director of Operations with deep Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and electronics manufacturing experience to directly lead Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality. This leader will own end-to-end customer fulfillment, from demand planning, sales forecasts, and customer orders through supplier readiness, materials, production planning, SMT/electronics manufacturing, quality, shipment, and delivery. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this leader will oversee teams and operating processes across the U.S. and Vietnam, serve as the primary operational owner of customer delivery commitments, and communicate regularly with customers, suppliers, executives, and occasionally the Board of Directors. The Senior Director of Operations will strengthen operational discipline, improve visibility and execution, and build the people, processes, equipment, quality systems, supplier performance, and scalable operating rhythms needed to support growth in a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do
•    Own customer delivery and execution. Translate sales forecasts and customer orders into material commitments, capacity plans, production schedules, and shipments; proactively identify shortages, constraints, and delivery risks and drive recovery plans and escalations.
•    Directly lead Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality. Own SMT/electronics manufacturing, materials planning, purchasing, supplier management, inventory, production, quality systems, customer service, order entry, and customer program management across U.S. and Vietnam operations, ensuring these functions operate as one integrated organization.
•    Coordinate multi-site performance. Align facilities and manufacturing partners to optimize delivery, quality, capacity, cost, and customer responsiveness, with clear accountabilities and operating processes across locations.
•    Establish a disciplined operating rhythm. Run weekly production meetings covering orders, materials, schedules, capacity, quality, and shipments, and lead executive operations reviews focused on KPIs, risks, actions, and customer commitments.
•    Communicate and resolve issues. Lead customer, supplier, and cross-functional meetings; provide clear updates on operational performance, capacity, risks, and plans to executives and occasionally the Board.
•    Lead supply chain performance. Directly manage the supply chain function, including procurement, supplier performance, material availability, inventory accuracy, working capital, E&O exposure, escalation management, and cross-functional alignment between demand, supply, production, and customer commitments.
•    Lead quality performance and corrective action. Directly manage the quality function, ensuring effective quality systems, traceability, corrective and preventive actions, customer quality responsiveness, internal yield improvement, and consistent adherence to customer and regulatory requirements.
•    Plan for growth. Develop operating budgets, staffing plans, capacity plans, and resource requirements, and prepare for volume increases through scalable people, processes, equipment, and systems.
•    Drive measurable improvement. Improve productivity, cost, schedule attainment, inventory turns, quality, yield, and delivery through Lean practices, data-driven problem solving, and operational discipline.
•    Develop leaders and teams. Coach functional leaders, set clear performance expectations, and build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and execution.

How You’ll Make an Impact
•    Establish reliable ownership of customer commitments and improve on-time delivery and production schedule attainment.
•    Increase forecast-to-delivery visibility across demand, materials, inventory, capacity, production, quality, and shipments.
•    Strengthen U.S.–Vietnam coordination and create a consistent weekly operating cadence for addressing risks and actions.
•    Improve supplier delivery, material availability, inventory turns, working capital, yield, returns, productivity, and cost performance.
•    Build capable leaders and scalable operating processes that support successful volume ramp-ups and profitable growth.

What You Bring
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field; MBA or advanced technical or management degree preferred.
•    10+ years of progressive manufacturing, operations, or supply chain leadership experience, including leading managers and cross-functional teams.
•    Required: Demonstrated direct leadership of Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality in a fast-paced electronics environment, with accountability for customer delivery, supplier performance, material availability, production execution, quality systems, corrective action, yield, and shipment performance.
•    Strong knowledge of planning, purchasing, materials, inventory, manufacturing, quality, operating budgets, capacity planning, and resource planning.
•    Required: Proven experience directly leading supply chain/materials and quality functions, not only partnering with or influencing those teams as peer organizations.
•    Experience leading multi-site operations; U.S. and Asian manufacturing experience, particularly Vietnam, is preferred.
•    Required: Deep, hands-on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) expertise and recent manufacturing operations leadership in electronics, semiconductor, industrial computing, memory, storage, or a closely related high-technology environment. Experience primarily in metal fabrication, machining, injection molding, medical-device manufacturing, or defense manufacturing without direct SMT/electronics operations experience does not meet this requirement.
•    Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, Lean manufacturing, volume ramp-ups, and operational scaling.
•    Track record of improving delivery, inventory, quality, productivity, cost, and working capital through measurable operating initiatives.
•    Excellent customer-facing and executive communication, analytical judgment, and hands-on problem solving.
•    Accountable, low-ego leadership style with urgency, sound judgment, follow-through, and the ability to develop strong managers and scalable systems.

Position Details
•    Reports to: VP of Operations
•    Location & Schedule: Full-time, onsite in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Monday–Friday
•    Compensation: Total compensation package includes bonus eligibility in the range of $165,000 to $180,000
•    Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, paid time off, holidays, and additional employee perks.
•    Additional Information: Candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance. Relocation assistance and employment sponsorship are not available currently.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
