Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead our technology and engineering organization for Yahoo Sports. This role is responsible for setting the strategic direction, driving innovation, and ensuring the successful execution of all Sports engineering initiatives that power our digital media products, platforms, and experiences. The Senior Director of Engineering will oversee a team of engineers, architects, and technical leaders to build scalable, high-performance, and engaging digital products that serve millions of sports fans worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with Yahoo Sports’s business objectives

  • Drive innovation in digital media technology, including video streaming, personalization, data analytics, and real-time content delivery

  • Establish and maintain technical best practices, architecture standards, and development methodologies

  • Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of all digital platforms

Engineering Execution & Operations

  • Oversee the development and deployment of digital media products, including websites, apps, streaming services, and interactive fan experiences

  • Manage and optimize the engineering budget, balancing speed, quality, and cost-effectiveness

  • Implement robust DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure strategies to accelerate development cycles

Talent Development 

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a world-class engineering team

  • Promote a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement

  • Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent, building a diverse and high-performing team

  • Foster an environment where engineers feel empowered to take ownership and drive impactful solutions

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a key member of the executive team, contributing to overall business strategy

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Content teams to deliver seamless and engaging user experiences

  • Communicate technical concepts and decisions effectively to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and investors

  • Partner & collaborate with other Heads of Engineering across all of Yahoo’s entities

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the company remains competitive

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 12+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a senior management capacity

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale engineering teams in a fast-paced digital media, streaming, or sports-tech environment

  • Expertise in cloud-based architectures, modern web/app development, and large-scale content distribution

  • Strong background in agile development, DevOps, and continuous delivery

  • Deep understanding of data-driven personalization, AI/ML applications in media, and fan engagement technologies

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills

  • Passion for sports and digital innovation

The compensation for this position ranges from $180,310.00 - $392,430.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
